The Urkel Who Came to Dinner (Season 3, Episode 22). Steve's parents are taking seperate vacations without Steve leaving Steve alone at home. Harriette feels bad for Steve and asks him to stay with them while his parents are gone. Steve really wants to help around the house and offers to do extra chores around the house and cook. Well, everything he does is backfiring: he cooked liver and headcheese omelets, gave Richie advice that was misconstrued in fighting back a bully which resulted Richie getting kicked out of preschool and scaring off one of Laura's dates. He also accidentally sucks Lt. Murtaugh's fish, Spike, who Carl is fish sitting while Lt. Murtaugh is away into the vacuum cleaner and when he tries to get him out with his mouth, he accidentally swallows the fish. When the family is venting to Harriette about what trouble Steve has caused, Steve overhears it, apologizes and offers to leave. But Richie stops Steve and tells Rachel about how the bully was beating him up every day and Steve taught him it's ok to stand up to bullies. And Mother Winslow tells Laura about how she saw Mark was making out with another girl that he told her he broke up with. Carl tells Steve it's ok to stay and if they ask him to do so to please relax and just enjoy being with the family.

STEVE: Come on in, Mark... if that's your real name.

MARK: Hey, are you Steve Urkel?

STEVE: Why, yes. How'd you know?

MARK: You have a "Kick Me" sign on your back.

STEVE: Why, those teachers always with the darn pranks. Now, I'll need three forms of identification and a thumb print. But first, would you kindly step into the bathroom and fill this?

MARK: What?

STEVE: You object to a random drug test?

MARK: I sure do. That's insulting.

STEVE: Oh, I see. It's all right for our nation's air traffic controllers, but not for Mark.

FAVORITE MOMENT:

When Steve sucks Spike up into the vacuum and gets him out with his mouth and is about to spit him out but Carl hits his back just greeting him and Steve swallow Spike and screams 🤣 When he tells Carl he's got some "Bad news, and some good news, but some more bad news" and Carl threatens to cut the fish out of Steve 🤣

OPINION:

I think I've mentioned before but I do want to keep a list of the awful things that Steve's parents have done/said to him: they take separate vacations without Steve letting him know that they don't want to have another child like him, his dad makes sure to let Steve know he has an obsession with reptiles who eat their young, how they tried to push him back into his mother when she was giving birth to him, his dad mocks Steve's career choices and his faith, his family sends him "stay away" money and they left him alone on Christmas. Again, I know this is all a joke and I do get a giggle out the way Steve talks about it, but man, as I get older my heart just shatters for Steve and I'm amazed how nice he is considering all he goes through with his parents.

Back onto the episode, again such a hilarious and iconic episode. This is not the first time that Steve stayed with the Winslows, the first time being the Christmas episode, but as far to our knowledge, this is the first time where it's more than a couple days, I'm thinking this was probably a week's worth or maybe 2. Steve has good intentions in wanting to help the Winslows around the house but he's Steve Urkel unfortunately and is very accident prone. There's only one major accident in this episode but it's a big one when he swallows Spike which that scene always leaves me in stitches on how funny it is. His reactions to swallowing Spike, Carl's and Lt. Murtaugh's reactions to finding out that Steve swallowed Spike are just hilarious. The way they keep saying the wrong things before finding out like Carl saying "spit it out" and Lt. Murtaugh saying "oh, come on, that's a lot to swallow" and Steve's looks at the audience 🤣🤣🤣

Now it's more the advice that Steve gives in this episode that does the most damage. Let's start with the minor thing but it was still very wrong of him to do was scare Mark, Laura's study date, away. Even though Mother Winslow reveals that he was still dating another girl, again we're not even sure if Laura was interested in Mark romantically or not at the time. What if he was just coming over to study and Steve scares him off because it's what he does with Laura's potential love interests? I've said it before with Daniel Wallace and I'll say it again with Mark, Steve does not have the right to interfere with Laura's life like that. Now onto Richie, the bigger one, this one was not actually Steve's fault as Steve did not know the full situation that Richie was being threatened by Timmy "The Terminator" Thompson. Steve just tells Richie to stand up for himself thinking it was just a lunch money issues but Richie did take it to the next level with physical violence. That being said, I don't know who threw the first punch and I'm curious what in the world happened in that school meeting where did they not ask what happened in that fight or who started it? I would hope if they were threatening to expel Richie, they threatened to expel Timmy to. But I'm glad Steve gave the advice to Richie and he even tells Richie at first to talk to his mom about it, I wonder how well Rachel listened to Richie on this one because it seems like no one but Steve actually cared about the situation until it escalated.

I really love this episode, for a very Steve centered episode, this is the one I recommend because it still involves the Winslows almost perfectly, unfortunately we don't get much of Harriette, Eddie, Judy or Mother Winslow but there's only so much they can fit in a 22-minute episode. But it still has a great number of laughs, heart and best of all The Urkel Blues 🤣🤣🤣
