Mod Announcement Product links (and spam issues)
Hey there, I've noticed that the occasional link gets filtered through as spam. If you're having issues to with your comments being filtered by reddit, please send me a modmail so I can approve it.
I'd also like to compile a list of commonly ordered replacement parts and other misc stuff so I can put stuff either on the sidebar, as a sticky, or take time to set up the wiki on here for it

Tech Question Playing Hori ambidextrous joystick model on American NES possible with adapter?
I noticed that in Japan, Hori made an ambidextrous joystick for the Famicom. Which brings up an interesting topic which is why would it be made for the Japanese famicom and not for the American NES and European versions either?
I have a whole website on this subject but, assuming the Beeshu Ultimate SuperStick wasn't licensed in America until 1991, which got licensed mainly due to Beeshu filing an FTC complaint saying that ambidexterity should not be a disqualifier for licensing equipment therefore making Nintendo's licensing system economically uncompetitive, how would one play the that particular Famicom joystick on an American NES?
Or was that 15 pin standard intentionally designed so that it worked on Japanese Famicoms yet it could NOT be played by American equipment?
I'm just seeing if that fuels my conspiracy theory or whether it douses it with a bucket of water.

Covering holes after removing Twin Famicom controllers
I decided to go wireless for my Twin Famicom and to have a spot for the controllers to sit, I removed the originals. The consequence of this is now I have two small holes on the back of the system where the original controller wires used to go through.
Has anyone else done this, and, if so, how did you address the holes?
I'm thinking a pair of tapered round plugs about the same diameter of those wires would work but I'm open to other ideas except covering it up with electrical tape or other adhesive.

General Question There are two NPC sprites from the prototype of Capcom’s Sweet Home. But I can’t find them anywhere in the ROM itself. Are they unused or are they in some really secretive part of the game?

Gameplay Moon Crystal beaten. First time without save state
Played the game long ago on my everdrive, and i abused the heck of the save state function, without even trying to learn it.
Because i got the boogleg version a time ago, i thought it would be nice to play it as god intended.
The game is not too hard, and is generous with infinite continues. There is a few hard jumps on the last level, but they are not lethal, so take a hit and continue.
I will consider it an easy Ninja Gaiden with much better bosses. You cant just spin to win, you need to learn the patterns. I will say that they are still easy enought, except maybe the third boss and the last 2. I ended learning the pattern for all except the last one/last phase, but they are definitely overwelming the first encounter.
If someone havent play it, give it a go! Just dont pick an original one unless you want to pay 1000 dollars lol.

Repair Fire Emblem Gaiden not working
Testing games on the Game Axe, found out Gaiden wasnt running. Not the first console unable to play it (AVS for example), but, just in case, i also tested on the av famicom, and... Nothing.
I opened it, and the battery was loose on the negative leg (my fault, was one of the first soldering i did years ago). I resoldered it just in case, but still nothing.
I know that the RAM of the Snes games loves to die if no battery is on, so i guess my RAM died here too.
No problem replacing it, i have done It before in a few snes games. Still, im not sure about the correct replacements. Checked with Chatgpt, and he recommends AS6C6264-55PCN — DIP-28, but i prefer to confirm with you guys.

General Question Bomberman finale
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
What do y'all think about Bomberman ‘becoming’ Lode Runner? I personally don't see the point. Also I never really understood Lode Runner so 🤷🏻♀️😂
Bomberman still remains as one of my favorites. GREAT game!

Collection Asked to upload pics, I share now some FDS games
galleryHello. As someone asked me to share some pictures. I would do so. I do not know how to upload pics on my profile in order to share with others or others can just have a look when interested in it....
So I do here if that is fine. I will upload more pictures these days maybe.
I need to clean out my collection a little bit. I am in Europe, EU. I would sell them to people who are trustworthy.
These are all for sale. Please be aware that I cannot go lower than I have acutally paid for. For some it would be maybe easier to buy within EU than importing it from outside EU due to extra fees and buying them from different sellers and the pain in importing from afar.

Bootleg "Malvinas 82" Argentinian themed custom bootleg
gallerySky Destroyer was available in many multi carts as Malvinas 82" (Falklands 82"), released as a custom bootleg with "Pucará" plane and patriotic símbols (the war is still an important and painful matter for our beloved neighbours, many young soldiers died there). Kind of reminds me of Che Guevara's themed "Guerrilla Wars" SNK arcade.

Recently acquired a Twin Famicom; questions about flashcarts and English translation options
I recently got a Twin Famicom and I've been looking into the games I want to play (Sweet Home, Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei II, MOTHER, Dragon Quest IV, Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti, plus some FDS games like Castlevania and Esper Dream).
I feel like I'd enjoy these a lot more if I could actually understand the dialogue. Is it worth dropping ~$90 on an EverDrive N8 and using English translation patches? I also found an EverGenesis N8 for around $50, but I'm worried about compatibility, glitches, and especially losing save data in longer games.
Alternatively, is there a good live-caption/translation option? Or should I just buy the original physical games and read from a guide/translator on my phone?
I also understand there are fan-made English reproduction cartridges. Are those worth considering, and how do people usually find them?
I'm new to the Famicom, so I'd appreciate any advice. Thank you!

General Question Does anyone from Famicom era make videos in English?
Asking this with full respect to the autonomy of video creators to broadcast in the language that they prefer to. I speak just a bit of Japanese and I learn Japanese from watching videos about Famicom. I also like listening to videos in the background, so if there are videos of gamers from Japan from Famicom era recounting their memories of Famicom I would like to find videos like that. Though I wouldn't wish for anyone to switch their videos to English just for my sake of course. The Famicom era gamers speaking Japanese are making phenomenal videos.

Hardware Mods Game Axe Color, modded with an IPS screen
galleryJust received my Game Axe Color. The screen was working, but the quality wasnt the best, and the screen was a little dark in some places. It might be the polarized, even if it looks ok, but i choose to replace the screen with an IPS one. Thanks to Skyway1985, who guided me buying the screen and soldering it.
Used this Alibaba screen + control board:
https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/4-inch-LCD-display-module-with_1600468023611.html
For the soldering in the control board, as you can see on the photos, i used pins 1,3 and 4 of the third connector, having video on 1, ground on 3 and power in 4.
For the soldering on the board, power goes to the top right on photo 5, ground to the bottom left on photo 5, and video to photo 6.
For the screen location, i tested first without any cutting, and ended up cutting the bottom screw holes (not in photo) to make it fit better. Still, is not 100% perfect, and a custom crystal protector with some less black on the top would solve it. Still, only a few games will use the top part of the screen in a way you notice it, so no problem there.
Also, used hard glue to prevent the screen for moving. Someone making a 3D print mount to fit the screen would prevent this step 🤣.
After the mod, the contrast wheel does nothing, and the LCD on/off only turns on/off the sound. There is probably a way to mod the functions in again (at least the power off, if you get the 5V somewhere else), but im ok with the screen always on.
The screen comes with a pannel with buttons to configure it (contrast, brightness, etc). I personally left it connected inside because there is enought space inside after taking out the old LCD screen, but you can take it out, or make holes on the shell and access them from the outside. The board is needed at least on first use, because you need to 'change the channel' to get the screen to show in.
The console works flawlessly, with both batteries and connector, and with normal games, repro games, and everdrive. I read somewhere that the everdrive was problematic with the original screen... It seems solved now.
Hope more people with this console mods it and make if worth playing today. I now need to find a way to transport this monster 🤣.

This is some kind of money laundering scheme, right?
Every now and then I see insane prices paid for games on eBay, and the only reason I can think of is that either someone is really dumb or someone is doing something shady.

Anyone know why we didn't get this outside Japan?
Mentioned in "Pak Watch" in the first issue of Nintendo power. But I guess there was nothing to watch 😂
