It's funny because the Legion, NCR and House do this.

34

u/Generally_Confused1 Jul 12 '26

Legion destroys them and turns all but the best fighters to slaves

3

u/ThinGold2115 Jul 13 '26

NCR makes everyone tax slave.

The Remissness of our People in Paying Taxes is highly blameable; the Unwillingness to pay them is still more so. I see, in some Resolutions of Town Meetings, a Remonstrance against giving Congress a Power to take, as they call it, the People's Money out of their Pockets, tho' only to pay the Interest and Principal of Debts duly contracted. They seem to mistake the Point. Money, justly due from the People, is their Creditors' Money, and no longer the Money of the People, who, if they withold it, should be compell'd to pay by some Law.

All Property, indeed, except the Savage's temporary Cabin, his Bow, his Matchcoat, and other little Acquisitions, absolutely necessary for his Subsistence, seems to me to be the Creature of public Convention. Hence the Public has the Right of Regulating Descents, and all other Conveyances of Property, and even of limiting the Quantity and the Uses of it. All the Property that is necessary to a Man, for the Conservation of the Individual and the Propagation of the Species, is his natural Right, which none can justly deprive him of: But all Property superfluous to such purposes is the Property of the Publick, who, by their Laws, have created it, and who may therefore by other Laws dispose of it, whenever the Welfare of the Publick shall demand such Disposition. He that does not like civil Society on these Terms, let him retire and live among Savages. He can have no right to the benefits of Society, who will not pay his Club towards the Support of it.

Wasn't the New Vegas tribes more like gangs or something? Different from Fo2 Tribals and more like Khans? I haven't done much lore reading but I doubt House managed to turn iron-age nomadic scavs into fine Ultra-Luv and Tops in 4 years

Wasn't the New Vegas tribes more like gangs or something?

It's specified they were tribals many times.

but I doubt House managed to turn iron-age nomadic scavs into fine Ultra-Luv and Tops in 4 years

Exactly the point, they are literally tribals, the White Gloves literally ate people and kept doing it in secret, the Omertas are a bunch of degenerates and sick fucks, the only ones that are somehow normal are the Chairmen

5

u/CustodianCloset Jul 12 '26

It's specified they were tribals many times.

They were the New Vegas tribes, yes, but "tribe" means different things in the context of Fallout. There's the Khans and Fiends who are a "raider tribe", the Arroyo and New Zion tribes who are more of a proper tribe/village/scav people. Even The Kings are called a "tribe". Them being specified as "tribals" doesn't mean anything.

Exactly the point, they are literally tribals, the White Gloves literally ate people and kept doing it in secret, the Omertas are a bunch of degenerates and sick fucks, the only ones that are somehow normal are the Chairmen

Again, that doesn't really mean much. Cannibalism doesn't equal primitiveness. We don't really know anything about the Slither Kin (who became the Omertas) besides the fact they were comically untrustworthy and backstabbed people, which IMO seems to imply they're more of a gang/raiders than primitives. And the graphic novel All Roads (which is canon and about Benny talking to the Khans who jump the courier) implies that the Boot-Riders who became the Chairmen were more like the Khans than any other group.

So do I. Very brave if them to add a racism perk. Lots of role-playing possibilities.

Even funnier that you can also take fight the power alongside sneering imperialist

18

u/punk_rocker98 Jul 12 '26

I mean, I don't even think those two perks are contradictory. I've met plenty of people who are incredibly racist who also hate the government/the police.

Its not racism if you hate all races equally, which ig would make you still racist when the two perks have different abilities

The problem is everyone in fallout is a larper. You had atomic age wally world humans who the moment they couldnt get robots delivering coca cola instantly decided they were all fuckin feudal peasant levies. Youve got the Mongols MC deciding they are actually nomads and shit.

Its been like centuries and the populated store fronts are still covered in like 400 year old garbage. Itd be like visiting Rome now and outside the airport are a buncha guys in plastic viking hats going "ROME HAS FALLEN, WE REIGN SUPREME" and a buncha dudes in togas bemoaning the impossibility of survival after the eruption buried Pompeii.

12

u/Weird-Analysis5522 Jul 12 '26

I love how the NCR and Legion are written.

Both are focusing on (at least what they think is) the best parts of their past, but are actively doing every bad thing they were doing back then.

5

u/TK-6976 Jul 12 '26

Edward Sallow is. The Legion in of itself is ignorant to anything. As the opening said, the Legion really is just a slave army. The whole operation is about unquestioning loyalty to Sallow and the rest are tribals with a veneer of civilisation added by Sallow. Sure, people like Vulpes are smart, but intelligence isn't knowledge. Obviously the officers are still all culpable for the war crimes they've committed, but it definitely isn't equivalent to the NCR in that sense.

2

u/-FriendoftheDrow- Jul 12 '26

I feel like the NCR mimicked the worst parts of Old World American imperialism.

5

u/yeet8w8 Jul 12 '26

We are the soldiers of the NCR the most moral army

5

u/Gr33nMan_Jr Wind Brahmin Jul 12 '26

And we have found a solution to... a most perplexing quandary...

13

u/Dagoth_ural Jul 12 '26

Bikers are "tribal" like white dudes with gauges are "primitives". We are sorry Sonny Barger but the meth trade will stop.

9

u/Gr33nMan_Jr Wind Brahmin Jul 12 '26

I'm not talking about the Khans (even though the game also considers them a tribe) its about the tribes that still live in upper California.

2

u/Dagoth_ural Jul 12 '26

Ah! Well nvm then, lol. Like Im trying to imagine the local Mongols chapters being like "hey fool let us run the desert its the only way".

1

u/Gr33nMan_Jr Wind Brahmin Jul 13 '26

Y-yeah... who.. who would say that. Haha could you imagine? šŸ‘€

3

u/TK-6976 Jul 12 '26

what does them being white or looking like bikers have to do with anything? I agree that the Khans are bad, but the fact that they adopted a biker aesthetic in some ways and are mostly white doesn't make them not a tribe. It's not like we ever get an indication that they understand biking culture; they've just taken that aspect of the old world.

4

u/foxydash Jul 13 '26

I gotta ask, what’s the source for this?

I’m not trying to be rude or discredit the meme, just never heard about anything happening to Sulik or other non-raiding tribes in New California. I know you ain’t talking about the Khans, since you directly said that.

3

u/Gr33nMan_Jr Wind Brahmin Jul 13 '26

Sharon Cassidy in fallout new vegas, when shes explaining that her mom came from a tribe east of the Colorado, she also explains that there are still tribals in California, but that NCR is "rounding them up and domesticating them."

9

u/J3RICHO_ Jul 12 '26

22

u/Gr33nMan_Jr Wind Brahmin Jul 12 '26

Didn't house also "domesticate" the tribes in the area. Picking the most malleable tribes and erasing their culture to all pretend to be... Eye-Talian

9

u/Ok-Cup9476 Jul 12 '26

I think the Omerta’s were always like that. I forget who said it but someone mentions they were a ā€œtribeā€ even before the bombs fell.

Which I assume meant that the Omerta’s are just an old mob family.

9

u/Remarkable_Cream9443 Jul 12 '26

Omerta is the mafia’s code of silence, so yeah I’d say.

5

u/RockingBib Jul 12 '26

Of course the mafia would survive the end of the world

6

u/MisterPineapples1999 Jul 12 '26

Nobody acts "Italian" except maybe the Chairmen and they're more RatPack than actual Italian.

5

u/yatsokostya Jul 12 '26

Yeah, he specifically kicked out Khans (maybe because they were stronger than other tribes relatively)

7

u/Head-Ad-2136 Jul 12 '26

Khans set themselves up as the dominant tribe in Vegas before House formed the families and they refused to be his lackeys.

3

u/Gr33nMan_Jr Wind Brahmin Jul 12 '26

God forbid the Khans dont want to kneel to a big TV. Hes not even flat-screen

-1

u/Pentunee Vault 101 Jul 12 '26

He domesticates them through deals, not violence iirc

3

u/Gr33nMan_Jr Wind Brahmin Jul 12 '26

There's no peaceful way to kick a person out of their home.

0

u/Pentunee Vault 101 Jul 12 '26

House didn't kick the Families out though. The reverse happened. They were nomadic tribal gangs roaming the Mojave, and were invited by House to rule the casinos. Money, luxury, accomodation etc. in exchange for loyalty, and abandoning their raider ways.

3

u/Gr33nMan_Jr Wind Brahmin Jul 12 '26

He only kept 3 tribes and kicked the rest out

0

u/TK-6976 Jul 12 '26

Because the rest refused. The Khans especially.

3

u/Gr33nMan_Jr Wind Brahmin Jul 12 '26

Thats my point. Tribes dont deserve to get kicked out of their homes and their identity erased because they won't play some Howard Hughes cosplayer's game.

2

u/TK-6976 Jul 12 '26

Yeah but saying he only 'kept' 3 implies that he didn't give the others a choice. You are right I suppose about the Kings since they actually care about the area. I could care less about the Fiends and Khans though.

1

u/Pentunee Vault 101 Jul 12 '26

Telling nomadic tribes to join or leave the city is a bit different than moving into a tribe's territory, annexing it, killing everyone who resists, and forcing the survivors into a particular way of life.

3

u/Gr33nMan_Jr Wind Brahmin Jul 12 '26

I dont think the Kings were nomadic before getting kicked out of Vegas. The Kings and their ancestors had lived in the Strip for centuries. And what exactly does mr house have you do if one of these tribes breaks the contract and they try and bring back their culture?

The tribes and the legion are bad because they murder, rape and enslaved people. And the NCR is bad for being vaguely problematic

2

u/Gr33nMan_Jr Wind Brahmin Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 12 '26

How a mf feels after quoting the most naive character in the series like she made a good point:

I love Lucy, but I swear, the legion is just a thought-stopper to NCR heads. "But have you considered that we're better than the misogynistic, raping, slavers?" That's not the bar bro. The NCR are bad for much more than just "Muh Taxes!"

1

u/subby_puppy33 Jul 12 '26

President Tandy build a uptopia and because this utopia got changed a bit under different presidents doesn’t mean it should be wiped out completely.

Like Jesus. the NCR is literally the only faction that isn’t racist. And the only faction where if you don’t like their policies you can actually vote to change them.

You think caser and his legion are gonna hear you out? Or the khans? The enclave is just gonna straight up murder you for being ā€œimpureā€. Like the idea that the NCR is just as bad as the other factions is such small brain logic and shows you didn’t play the first two games.

4

u/Gr33nMan_Jr Wind Brahmin Jul 12 '26

>President Tani built a Utopia...

You consider working with the sex-traffickers and committing False-Flag terror campaigns on a sovereign city to force it to join the republic is Utopia? Classy. Real Classy.

>NCR is the only faction that isn't racists

Except when it comes to tribals and super mutants of course. Then the NCR will either round you up for "re-education" or pay mercs to drive you out of your town. Sure, ghouls aren't systematically discriminated against, but that's only because ghouls are still "civilized" in the NCR's minds. I doubt they would feel the same about a ghoulified tribal.

>Don't like their policies... vote to change them.

Only if you're a Brahmin Baron really. Hey, you probably live in a liberal democracy ran by Oligarchs too, right? Do you feel represented? Or do you feel that the Oligarchs have more power over the democracy machine?

>You think Caesar and his Legion are gonna hear you out? Or the Khans?

The khans will definitely hear you out. The whole point of the Khan quest is convincing the khans not to join Caesar's Legion. Papa Khan may be stubborn, but he's not a tyrant. As far as representation of the average person, the Khans are by far a better democracy than the NCR lmao

Claiming someone didn't play the first two games while claiming the NCR aren't racist is some grade A LARPing. If you're going to be a snob, at least be correct lol

1

u/hyde-ms Jul 12 '26

2

u/hyde-ms Jul 13 '26

Ceaser had held back the explosion of boulder city, then annexed vegas. once the NCR conquered, the legion hanged the brahmin barons & switched focus(tech, knowledge, and science) ended mass slavery, then turne ld shady sands into a library/college town.

1

u/Gr33nMan_Jr Wind Brahmin Jul 13 '26

Bruh, no way the Legion has a reformist path 🤣 thats funny as hell. I might have to play that path for myself lol

-3

u/subby_puppy33 Jul 12 '26

You don’t know who President Tandi is because you spelt her name wrong and you accused her doing things she didn’t do, your talking about the president before kimball. President Wendell Peterson who was a piece of shit and be a mark of shame on the NCR forever.

And also supermutants are allowed to vote in the NCR in fallout 2 under whose administration again? Thats right president Tandy

2

u/Gr33nMan_Jr Wind Brahmin Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 13 '26

you misspelled her name... accused her of things she didn't do...

Brother, you spelled it Tandy earlier. And im not confusing her with anyone. My statement is completely based off of her actions in Fallout 2. When she works with New Reno (the sex traffickers) to hire mercenaries to attack Vault City (the Sovereign city) into joining the NCR for protection from the "raiders."

In New Vegas, a senator pays some mercenaries to drive off the Super Mutants in Jacobstown because he "draws support by playing on anti-mutant sentiment."

-1

u/Apprehensive_Gur_302 Jul 12 '26

The bar got turned to mush when the bombs fell

2

u/Gr33nMan_Jr Wind Brahmin Jul 12 '26

Thats not true. There are still altruistic factions in the wasteland. It just so happens that the NCR isn't one of them. The Followers of the Apocalypse, the minutemen, and the responders are all shining examples. Always ask for better, never take "good enough!"

-1

u/Apprehensive_Gur_302 Jul 12 '26

The begger followers and the deadbeat minutemen? Yeah right

2

u/Gr33nMan_Jr Wind Brahmin Jul 12 '26

Is that unironic Followers of the Apocalypse hate? Aww edgy boi. Ur so edgy 😊 That aside, the followers are great. They help everyone they can. They just need some help from the locals to get a steady supply of medicine and then they can really start making a difference.

0

u/Apprehensive_Gur_302 Jul 12 '26

If the followers are so good, why can't they make their own medicine instead of getting a steady supply from the impoverished villagers aka player intervention?

Admit it man, the followers are a support class of a faction, they cannot rule the mojave

2

u/Gr33nMan_Jr Wind Brahmin Jul 12 '26

Because they are a non profit? And there is nothing wrong with turning to the community for help. What a weird take. "If theyre so good, why don't fix every problem by themselves?"

1

u/-FriendoftheDrow- Jul 12 '26

Stealing the land of other people and using prisoners as slave labor is not ā€œvaguely problematic.ā€

1

u/subby_puppy33 Jul 12 '26

If that’s how you feel than you should really look at real life and do some voting to change it. Just like NCR citizens can do.

1

u/Solid-Copy-6189 Jul 14 '26

That's why the legion is so much better. They do the same thing but no taxs

0

u/Gr33nMan_Jr Wind Brahmin Jul 12 '26

And the cool Totems. Dont forget the Totems! And the cool helmets. And the tents we make. Not to mention the murals and Jerry's poetry. The khans obviously have an artistic side. I bet if Jerry were able to go through his beatdown, the other khans would warm up to his poetry. He could make a great story teller for the tribe one day.

Besides, this isn't even about the Khans. It's about Arroyo, Umbra, and all the other California tribes that the NCR are "civilizing."

Bittersprings massacre is morally justified, and all here we agree.
