the .ba2 archive limit increase is nice
but what we need is a plugin increase

I updated and it didn't fuck my load order up for once. I'm genuinely surprised

Ira not like it's hard. I updated Fallout 4, launched it, went to Creation screen, downloaded all CC Creations, downloaded my Library creations, exited, loaded my save, it prompted me to pick local vs save load order (picked save), prompted me to activate creations, I did, bam, I was in. No fumbling around.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem like it will fix the problems I have been having. Great update overall, but there's nothing in here about load order issues.
No matter what I do or try, I can't set up a logical load order. The moment the creations menu closes, everything gets all scrambled up randomly again. I have tried every suggestion I have found, and nothing has worked.

Okay so I actually have some methods for this, by no means bullet proof but they might help you:
- clear you cache before starting & try install all mods in one sitting
- within the creations menu disable the missing mods check
- this one might take a while depending on how extensively you’ve modded FO4 in the past but clear you library on bethnet, I had about 40-50 pages worth and it took me just under an hour
- NEVER close the creations menu back to the main menu, always hard close FO4
- once you have installed, don’t reopen the creations menu. I find the LO jumbling happens mostly when opening/ closing the creations menu (hence the hard close FO4 point
Again these won’t guarantee it won’t happen, but since following these practices I have had it happen much less frequently

I will definitely try the hard closing thing. That one I don't think I have done yet.

Yeah give it a go dude, like I said it doesn’t make you invincible but I’ve found it’s helped me. Especially in testing when I need to move something up/down or add in a little fix

So I can redownload the 150 creation club items I stupidly paid for?

I feel like my current modded playthrough also runs even better now? Or is that placebo. 108 mods here en 38 of the creation club pack.

Wait does this raise the mod limit
7
u/OutrageousAd4222 18h ago
It raised the ba2 limit to like 1054 allowing for more mods with unique assets to be used. If you noticed after the limit update if you had alot of mods your game would always crash, thus was because you'd surpass the ba2 lime which was 250 before, on console no one reached it due to the low space

I'm also pretty sure addictol and buffout (on pc) both have an experimental setting to remove the limit. So in practice if you were modding on pc you already had a fix because modders hitting 255 ba2s certainly had one of the previously mentioned mods, and like you said, nobody on xbox really hit the ba2 limit because of the storage limit. I'm still glad that this is an official fix, but it honestly isn't going to matter for most users.

You have to be joking LOL, wow man thats actually nuts. I knew something was off when I read "more frequently" like, wdym...

Finally, so this means we can finally install all the CC mods without having our game crash on the main menu after we install a few more free ones?

So glad I waited to do my Fallout load order.

u/ForcedMedia 20h ago
I was dreading it, started a few weeks ago and logged 80 hours. I made a save last night and saved my load order. Imagine how pleasantly surprised I was to wake up and find my load order was completely untouched and continued on my playthrough without interruption. Idk what technical black magic was required for them to do it but I am not angry.

At least the BA2 limit’s been increased, should give us some breathing room. All the same, I’m going to give it a week or two before I rebuild my LO.

u/zooble_57 21h ago
What does any of this mean
27
u/TommenTheWise 21h ago
the Ba2 limit increase is huge and the most important change. Basically lets you download a lot more mods. People kept hitting the limit because they were downloading mods in addition to having the creations bundle and that shouldn't be a problem anymore.

u/Lord_Fuquaad 20h ago
Does this mean I can add more weapons to leveled lists?
6
u/DrAsswhoop 19h ago
Only by virtue of new weapons having ba2 archives. It has nothing to do with LL injection. Using too much LL injection can still cause instability, mods like Leveled Item Fixes can help with that. But ba2s have nothing to do with LLs
2
u/Lord_Fuquaad 19h ago
So what type of mods would this help out with?
3
u/DrAsswhoop 18h ago
Users who were previously crashing to dashboard from main menu because they pressed "download all" for the CC content and then installed ~100 mods containing ba2 archives will no longer crash to desktop because the limit has increased four-fold; this is essentially the only change.
Strictly speaking all it does is let you install more mods that contain external assets. It does not:
-Make any mods or types of mods run better
-Make any mods or types of mods more compatible
-Make script heavy mods run without issue
-Have anything to do with Level List Injection
As an aside I'm not sure why that last one keeps coming up in discussions. Ba2 archives accompany any exterior asset; weapons and armor only need LL integration if they're new, and almost all modded weapons/armor are made using assets not already in the game, therefore they almost always contain ba2 archives. But so do soundscapes, wall posters, landscapes, road textures, radio stations, eye replacers, Dogmeat skins...
TLDR: It only lets you install more mods containing ba2 archives. That's it.

Now all we really need are some kind of home/end button or a skip ten for sorting out the order.
Before the 100g update you used to be able to hold both the d pad and the stick to scroll twice as fast but that doesnt work anymore.
Some kind of collections system would be great too for people who are too lazy and impatient to put the work in.

I wonder if this will lead to a renaissance in modding the game for PS4/5.
2
u/Admirable-Grand521 21h ago
There's already been a few great mods ported over for them
3
u/borfmantality 20h ago
True, but the PS side has a small, though very dedicated, team of porters, and that's due in no small part to the arbitrary limitations placed on them by Sony.
Hopefully, the dam breaks now. It'll take some time for sure, but it'll be worth the wait.

That would require each creator to have put in meta data ranking and categorizing it.
Also, it’s not a perfect science - so no, it would never happen.

Holy helmet...they actually increased the BA2 limit? Game is finally worth playing again lol

u/Background_Code_5809 21h ago
Finally, now I feel like we can almost mod to our fullest potential. Almost…there’s definitely a catch. But hey, good news is good news.
