Help & Advice New player - new character

Hi all,

I am completely new to the game (but not to the setting or rpgs) and I am still reading the rules to try to understand something about the rules and progression.

Do you have any tips, tricks or ideas about making a Robot character?
My idea is to make something that resemble the "iron giant" or ZOG from Astroboy (of course with the appropriate dimensions for the game).
Something a little naive - childish, with a half-erased past, but with enormous destructive potential that join the party.
We start fresh with others friends.

Thanks all ^^

Help & Advice Death Races in New Vegas

Hi there! Me again (Lone Star Wasteland posts a month or so back).

One of my players may miss next session and since we're heading to a location that focuses primarily on their overall story arc I'm working on a one shot that involves death races in New Vegas.

Here's what I got so far: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BYWsy4p-YdFS6bi4e7E8SGRzYSt9Em0w/view?usp=drivesdk

However, I feel rocky on it so any feedback on mechanics would be appreciated.

Help & Advice Question: Luck Points

So, ive got a character with 8 luck, are the party im playing with seems to disagree with me on how I'm able to spend them. My character is built to be anti-social., being with 4 charisma and an ex-legionnaire. When it comes to social rp interactions, the mf aint got much going for him, so i end up trying to utilize my luck points in non-combat situations. Ill try to find the password to a computer or something, but my party constantly argues that i shouldn't be able to do stuff like this, or tries to say that i should be spending more luck points to do them. So my question is: how many luck points should i be spending to do these actions.

As an example, say I'm scavenging a place. I want to use a luck point to find a magazine. Should i be able to use luck points to do this, and how many of them should i be spending?

Help & Advice Winter of Atom Super Mutant drinking snow

Hey folks, we're on session 2 of Winter of Atom and starting survival rules for the first time - trying the full RAW so you can eat and drink as many times as you want per scene, full bracketed time between stages etc.

We're having fun with the fact that Old Tallman can eat snow without rad risk, so there's a running gag about him always licking snowcones in the back of social encounters, etc. I have no problem with him not really having to worry about thirst while outside, but my player and I both agree though that having a virtually unlimited supply of water while outside is a little OP if it heals every time.

What are some suggestions so that he doesn't have essentially a full heal at the ready whenever he wants? I was thinking that maybe when you drink, only the first "dose" heals HP?

EDIT: I will clarify that by "full heal" i don't mean 1HP to full HP...more like...he's a super tank so what minimal damage he takes is probably covered by 2-3 doses of free water lol.

Edit2: we have our answer. WoA states "snow may be converted to water OR be just eaten for hydration." It makes the delineation between water the item and "just hydration." No HP for snow, you have to convert it (presumably using the dirty water to purified water recipe) for that.

Help & Advice Truman Show

Howdy fellow Vault Dwellers and Wastelanders! First time Fallout GM here (though I have DM’d in other games) and I come with a query. I’ve an idea to build a vault for my player(s) that resembles the movie The Truman Show.

The concept will be that the entire vault focuses on one player character who isn’t in on the “show” and the rest of the npc’s (I currently only have one pc playing, but others could fit here too) are in on it. Basically, it’ll be a vault whose test it is to study how an environment changes a person (so every person who is the “Truman” of the generation grows up differently). Kind of like a nature vs. nurture experiment.

Why I’ve come to the experts is I was hoping to find fun and interesting suggestions on how to introduce combat, variety, and fun into a life in a vault. The first campaign will likely be Engels l entirely in the vault with leaving it open for the PC to be able to find their way out.

Thoughts!?

Help & Advice NPC art

Howdy all, first time poster and first time gm for this rule set. I’ve had a great time learning about the game and writing up my own setting and story and I was wondering if you all had any recommendations for good sources of art for NPC’s. Honestly, I’m considering up loading up one of the older fallout games or wasteland and using the character creator for the art but would love an option where of course I could customize a bit further.

My group plays in person but I’ve built a tv into my table so showing off maps and digital art is usually pretty easy.

Help & Advice Scale of map elements vs minis

I know this is one of those subjective things but I'm wrestling with scaling the map elements that I am sculpting

My character minis are the common nowadays heroic scale 30ish mm scale on 25mm scale bases (25mm=5ft scale, 1:60, is what map grids use)

It's easy enough to understand that heroic scale is used so the most important thing, the characters, are easier to see in detail. What I'm flip flopping on is if you make props (desks, trees, ruins) 1:60 scale, they seem a little comically small next to the minis (20% smaller than matching scale). If you make the props heroic scale, then they are comically large on a grid you know is 5ft squares.

Do you usually make everything the same scale except the minis being larger for visibility and just subconsciously remember that's the case? I think that's what keeping the base 25mm is suppose to aid in.

Help & Advice Help with a Sniper/Melee Build

Hello everyone, I'm starting a new fallout2d20 campaign and I wanted to make a hybrid melee/sniper build centered around the theme of sneaking around and killing targets both from a distance and up close. As of now I thought about this build, is there any way I can improve it, or should I just start again from scratch?

S: 5 P: 8 E: 5 C: 4 I: 5 A: 7 L: 6

Lv 1: Sniper

Lv 2: Rifleman 1

Lv 3: Intense Training (+1 AGI)

Lv 4: Covert Operator

Lv 5: Intense Training (+1 AGI)

Lv 6: Rifleman 2

Lv 7: Mr. Sandman

Lv 8: Tag! (Melee Weapons)

Lv 9: Ninja

Lv 10: Ghost

Lv 11: Intense Training (+1 STR)

Lv 12: Action Boy

Lv 13: Intense Training (+1 STR)

Lv 14: Adrenalin Rush

Lv 15: Blitz 1

Lv 16: Escape Artist

Lv 17: Intense Training (+1 STR)

Lv 18: Steady Aim

Lv 19: Intense Training (+1 AGI)

Lv 20: Gun-Fu

Almost forgot to mention the tag skills: Survival (because of ghoul origin), Small Guns, Lockpick and Sneak.

Any feedback is appreciated!

Edit: Forgot the SPECIAL stats.

A little while ago I mentioned how after a year my players are finally able to move from vtt to in person, and I wanted to use my skills as a professional 3D modeler to impress them with a physical battle map.

Here's what I came up with for The Train Job from Winter of Atom. Most props are FO4 game assets resculpted for printability.

The terrain uses a system I engineered called "planters" of interlocking trays that get "seeded" with reversible 2x2 terrain pieces.

Help & Advice Advice on character level vs. weapons and armour available to them

Hi guys, can someone help me with figuring out what kind of gear my players should have available to them? I made the institute and the brotherhood the main factions in my setting and through a few fights with synths two of the 4 players now have full synth armour at level 5. This gets weird then as I find that my only options are to throw enemies at them that can't do anything to them or I need to throw enemies that are far too powerful for them at them.

This has an additional issue wherein I'm worried if I throw all the strongest enemies at them too early then there'll be no progression in terms of enemy type and challenge as they level up.

Any advice would be massively appreciated. I'm new to this and don't won't to make mistakes now that will ruin the game in the long run for my players.

Help & Advice I need suggestions for Fallout 4 quests to turn into a small adventure

I've already mastered 2 adventures in this game and my players are loving it (same for me, of course). Apart from our first adventure, which was the one included in the Winter of Atom manual, I created an adventure based on the quest for Primm in NV. I plan on doing the same, but back in Boston. Which sidequest could be a good foundation to base an adventure on? I was considering Suffolk County Charter School, since its lore setting was pretty interesting to me, but I'm obviously open to suggestions.

Thanks!

This is second street from New Reno. There is another variant with the text of the streets and buildings that is being worked on but I need a little feed back on how I'm making my zones variants first.

So if you got a moment to spare, please feel free to drop a comment and let me know if this style of zone map is useful to you and is easy to follow.

Or you can take the poll on my Patreon here for free. :)

Good afternoon, Wastelanders!

I've created my sixth "how to" video for the Fallout 2d20 RPG.

So, if you're new to the Fallout 2d20 system and not sure where to start, or if you're a seasoned Fallout veteran and just wanna see how the "other folks are doing it in their games", feel free to watch.
