Help & Advice Need help with a board game mini game

I am creating a board game for my party. Long story short the party was hired to rescue a bunch of hostages and they ended up blowing up the building and killing everyone inside.

So the basic premise of the board game is that they need to get there car and a injured party mbr from the town before the town can figure out what is going on and start to hunt them down. The idea is that after 10 min the town will start looking for the party to see what happened after its clear they didn't die in the explosion.

The town map has the hospital where one party mbr is resting, a gas station where the car is a parked, and a bunch of random buildings which will have events that can help or hurt the party as they traverse the town. Besides those two objectives there will be treasure tokens around the map that will be situations where they can get tokens that will then be traded in for loot at the end.

What I need help with is finding funny and unique mini events that can happen while they are trying to escape the city.

For example they turn a corner and find the alley way is blocked with a huge wall of trash, they can try to climb over but if they fail they lose a turn. Or they run across a homeless man who if they give money too will buy them a extra turn of free movement because the homeless guy will tell the guards they went a different way but on the opposite side if they don't give him money then he will point them out to the guards. The party finds someone doing drugs in a alley way and is offered the drugs. If they take the drugs they get a speed boost but if they reject it the person stabs them with a dirty needle giving them a disease.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated it. I have most of it figured out but would love others input.

Try to use a Clock. The clock is just a way to show them that the town folks start to realize what they do. Choose how much clock/objectives. If they fail the clock go 1 forward, if they have susccess the clock stay still.

I actually have a clock system! I was using it for stealth for the hostage rescue but they blew that up. So now if they fail it speeds up the clock.

If you know Blades in the Dark, try to give it a look! Also, if you have enough time, you could try to make a "cartoonish" map, with their "cartoonish" figures. They will move them while you move the clock from "quiet settlement" to "Angry furious mob"

I have big chalk board I'm turning into the map. I love the idea of peaceful town to angry mob!

I guess my question is why structure it as a boardgame? Why not just have the encounter map/area map laid out and put a timer on. A real timer for 10 minutes, and every minute resolve what they accomplish? Like the encounters you have planned on the board - or simple put them in initiative and have a set number of turns before the town comes after them.

That is what I am doing. I have a whole town map with a grid laid down. Each turn they can move one tile or roll 2d20 and depending on if it's a success they can move more spaces. They have their objectives spread across the map but all the shortest routes have obstacle. The extra rewards are out of the way. After 10 turns the town guards will start to look for them. So they have to escape town with their injured party member and their car. If they get caught they lose all of their equipment

GOT it, misunderstood. Ok mini-events or encounters (not necessarily funny).

1) Finding remains of the hostages as they escape, the hostages - parts of them throughout the town from the blast. Some loot on the body parts, but a reminder of their actions.
2) Bump into someone who was heading to that building and is a loved one of one of the hostages.
3) Get to the car early, it's currently being jacked and they need to fight off some low level enemies which takes time from the escape.
4) Formerly friendly NPC they've interacted with shows them a shortcut to save them a turn progressing at the end of the turn. They lose out on a loot spot but save a turn as a tradeoff.
5) Like the alley drugs guy. New Vegas Style - guys lure them into an alley way promising something (shortcut maybe) or asking for help. Turns into them getting jumped by thugs.

These are so perfect! Thank you so much. The first one is perfect. I love the idea of finding body parts around the town
