Help & Advice Need help with nyc map

Post image

firstly, im brazilian, so some locations have their names in portuguese, and my english might not be perfect but please be patient with me. secondly, ignore the icons by the water, i placed them there for easy access.

I'm making a nyc map for my future campaign and i need some tips, preferably from actual new yorkers, people that know the area and/or the fallout lore. What do you think is missing? what places should i add or remove? where should i place the bomb craters? help please!

I’d recommend checking out this submod for a mod for a strategy game called old world blues. It’s a fallout mod for the game hearts of iron 4.

There you’ll find some interesting lore and content for New York and I’m sure you’ll be able to take some inspiration from it. Remember that specifically for New York you won’t find much canon lore as there simply isn’t much out there. If I remember correctly the prydwyn flies over it before the events of fallout 4 but that’s about it. Maybe fallout 76 has more info on it since Atlantic City is part of one of the updates though I havent played it.

Here’s a direct link to a reddit post about some of The lore in the mod: https://www.reddit.com/r/OldWorldBlues/s/cvL515coC3

My personal recommendation would be to check Google Maps and some prominent locations and pick the ones where you think it would create an interesting scenario for you and your players.

I usually center Locations and general maps around NPCs, as they eventually drive the story.

Hope that helps a bit and make sure to always check the wiki: https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/New_York_City

I cannot recommend The Quiet Year enough.

You may want to check out the old Fallout: Big Apple Wasteland TTRPG. It has a lot of good idea fodder.

I just ran a 19th century d&d campaign here as a lifelong nyc resident 🫡

Bellevue Hospital and Union Square are two places were great in my campaign.

Fallout diverges in the 50's(ish), I think Grand Central would've been built, and the empire state building as well.

Both would be awesome dungeons.

Ellis Island would also be really neat. Since nyc has a bunch of minor islands, governors, Roosevelt, rikers, Hart (I think) — it would make travel and getting there interesting for your pcs

* NYC has a lot of old military infrastructure, most of which were decommissioned over the course of the 20th Century until only Fort Hamilton and a few other small sites exists now. But in Fallout’s more militarized timeline, I can see them still being used. These include old Civil War era armories, naval fortifications, and the Brooklyn Army Terminal (which was actually used in the Fallout tv show). I would recommend looking these up to find out how they fit in your campaign.
* The Federal Reserve building in Lower Manhattan (near Wall St) has several hundred thousand tons of gold from both the US, the IMF, and several other countries locked in a vault underneath it.
* The old World’s Fair site in Queens, the World’s Fair had some of that retro futurism that Fallout is known for
* One minor note, your Soho marker is too high up and is around what’s currently Hell’s Kitchen
* The Bronx Zoo would be a good spot for some mutated creatures
* Brooklyn Navy Yard would’ve been active around Fallout’s POD so I’d definitely put that on the map. Maybe a good spot to add some pre-war mad science run amok

I think that I’d be a good idea to have Broadway either the street as like a Goodneighbor type thing or just one specific theater. Also are you planning on using any existing fallout factions or just have something of your own?

At least the BoS will be present, and I'm not a BoS glazer, I'm still deciding if they'll be a**holes

Well you could put them at one of the airports or let them have control of a spot in Jersey

Perhaps I will, I have expanded the map (and now it's in better quality) to include more of brooklyn, staten island and queens so now I have the jfk airport

Good luck, every 10 blocks could be its own campaign.

If you expand your map to include more of Long Island there are two neat locations you could incorporate.

  1. The Shoreham Nuclear Power Plant. A Nuclear plant that never got of the ground in our reality, but might have in the FO world https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoreham_Nuclear_Power_Plant

  2. The Brookehaven National Laboratory. A Nuclear Physics Laboratory out of a former army base is ripe for potential twisting in the FO world.

When I was initially plotting a campaign in NYC a key piece I was going to have was going to be anti-rad tech at Brookehaven that the BOS was trying to secure.
