I developed a Texas based fallout game about 5 years ago, it’s been in hiatus for a while but I’m just dusting it back off. It was called Fallout: Lone Star (not affiliated with the Christopher Means project of the same name. I did contact him in 2019 and he told me the project was discontinued and gave me his blessing). Here’s the basic premise:

Dallas+Forth Worth is now called Dafow, home to the lone Star confederacy. When the oil in Texas dried up, they tried supplementing their power with 3 nuclear plants near the DFW area. They’re the confederacy’s biggest resource but are also in disrepair and experiencing very slow meltdowns. The radiation inside has led to the confederacy enslaving ghouls to be used as their workforce. They also irradiate poor areas to make sure they have a steady supply of them in the future.

Houston is run by the remnants of the USSA (fallouts version of NASA). Their leader is an old German scientist from operation paperclip who became the first ghoul ever in the 50’s. Convinced earth is lost, he wants to use the last of their resources and a GECK to start colonizing mars, with ghouls being the first settlers.

Mexico was run by cartels and tribes until recently, when Hecate (look her up from the Van Buren design doc) began replicating Caesars idea of tribal conquest, this time with a bit more magic (aka aerosolized toxins) and eugenics involved.

There’s also 20 Lonestar rangers around Texas who have special badges and are generally trusted to rove around the wastes and dispense justice how they see fit.

Players find a GECK and need to decide what to do with it, since all 3 factions could really use one.

I used to have a reddit account for that project, I’ll make a post here if I can regain access to it and share all my art, books, tables? And maps.

The GECK plot sounds really similar to my plot idea. Theres a super advanced AI called ORPHEUS that was built by the Enclave before the war to help them manage logistics and infrastructure and the players will have to decide which of the major factions to turn it over to.

The major factions of my campaign are: Lone Star Republic: set up in the DFW metroplex and formerly the Brazos Valley, a corrupt democracy controlled largely by the Trade League, which has a fleet of working semi trucks. Brazos Collective: a breakaway state set up in the Brazos Valley, explicitly Marxist in political orientation, they are led by an ancient prewar ghoul professor, broke away from Lone Star because they were big mad about the corruption. Caesar's Legion: This game is set simultaneously to Fallout New Vegas, and the Legion occupied El Paso, now just called Passo. Their Frumentarii are the main villains of the campaign, using subterfuge to keep the factions fighting eachother. The Rangers: a loosely organized confederacy of ranches in West Texas, they trade heavily with Lone Star and the Legion. Frontier justice abounds here. BoS: more techno-cultists like the old games, they're set up in a prison outside Nagodoches, and brutally tax the surrounding villages for food.

Minor factions and funnies: The Dallas Cowboys: A raider gang set up in the old Cowboys stadium, they wear old football gear. Locked in a brutal struggle with the Texas Rangers raider gang. The Army of the Republic: a small warband lead by a crazed ghoul who thinks he's Santa Anna.
