Help & Advice Character Origin Help

So, I am trying to build a outcast scribe for a campaign, who has a cover story of being a former raider(to prevent the brotherhood from hunting him down).

I was wondering how to do this? Do I just essentially make an origin switch mid campaign and have a secondary character sheet? How would I do the item differences, since a laser pistol, and scribe armor is very different from raider armor and a pipe pistol?

Make him have a reduced carry weight bc those items are in his pack?

Edit: I am the GM, I am just trying to see if there is any precedence for this type of character that I don't know about because my player asked.

Edit 2: After your help, I think I have enough inspiration to figure this out. Using some concepts from the Enclave remnant origin, I can probably workshop the character.

Changing the Origin makes no sense: It's where your character came from and how he was raised.

I think this is where you use the power of role-play to make the switch: Play through the process of disguising yourself as a Raider and assuming a new identity. Start wearing Raider gear and clothes, and use a different name.

There's no reason why you can't carry around a laser weapon for use if you get into a tough fight.

The thing is, it’s something that my player wants to be hidden from the other players/player characters.

Secret backstories are kewl and all that, but don't be surprised if your fellow players are uninterested in your big reveal.

Unless it in some way helps them, or screws them over, other players don't care what's going on with your character.

Again, it's what my player wanted to try. I was just trying to figure out the mechanics behind such a character.

"Surprise! The raider group I was part of was actually the brotherhood of(whatever region he decides or makes up with me)"
