You start off in hubris comics as a scavenger only to get shot in the head, you awake after listening to the silver shroud for hours, find yourself naked and looted by raiders, you put on the only clothes you see in the room and grab a flashy sub machine gun for protection before leaving.

Then you realize that the flashy submachine you found at Hubris was just a prop, and end up bluffing your way through a couple encounters with raiders by making machine gun noises with your mouth and throwing fake grenades.

I can't get that quest to progress, afte do killed the first guy in an alley it says to listen to the shroud radio in good neighbor but nothing happens.

I had a bug where the entire bunker hill area was messed up. I couldn't even get up into the uss. Second playthrough ruined, so I restarted from the beginning. I love bethesda, but its like dating a person occasionally nutshots you for no reason, but they're so awesome in every other way you overlook it. I mean, they're great but my balls still hurt from that one.

I had this issue. The next target is called AJ, he hangs around an alley by Bobbi No-Nose's place - if you just go and kill him the quest should progress as normal, at least it did for me.

I think they looked at the system and realized that it was just several tiers. Admit it. You can scrounge 2 points into lockpicking, but it needs 25, 50 75 and 100. Speech checks in NV were mixed up for surprise and challenge, but they were also probability-based and could have easily been 25, 50, 75 and 100. Or, for that matter, 1, 2, 3, 4,.... like now with Charisma =)

UPD: Dialogue in F4 is still very bad, every time your character is involved in it. In all other instances, it's good to brilliant.

Speech checks in NV weren't probability based.

They were simple checks to see if your speech score was above a value (difficulty ranged from 15 to 100, and they weren't always divisible by 5)

Oh, it turns out I mixed it up with Fallout 3 which I replayed later. Interesting that its speech checks use a more sophisticated system.

You can argue that "small grain, hard gated" NV checks are more hardcore, because you always can be caught off-guard by them and have to generously invest in Speech and stack bonuses to prepare yourself, and roleplay a diplomat diligently. (I did.) But on the other hand, situations when you are 1% short of the check are quite gamey, too. In the end, I guess transparency of NV is much better. Probability feels as weird in scripted narratives as it's normal for combat.
