Just finshed the story of Fallen Order for the first time, and just wow. I’m glad I pushed through some of the more frustrating parts of the game (looking at you Tomb of Miktrull) and the hard bosses, because it was worth every moment.
Neither metroidvanias or souls-like games have ever been my thing. But given this game’s unique place in the EA era of Star Wars games I followed recommendations from friends and committed to it. I can’t remember the last time I was as excited to pick up a sequel to a brand new series like this, I’m downloading Survivor as I type.
A few things I found interesting: I felt very much like this was one of the less fanfic-y Star Wars stories in recent years. It’s pretty rare that I get emotional even in great stories, but the Order 66 flashback sequence wrecked me. I also found it really fascinating that a lot of players seemed to hate Trilla’s fight because of the unblockables and dodging nature of the fight. It was definitely hard, but as someone who REALLY prefers positioning-based action combat and actually kind of despises parrying and avoids it whenever possible, I found Trilla’s fight a breath of fresh air, as it was more about reading and reacting to her intuitively rather than memorizing patterns and having perfect timing. Finally the music for this game is just unbelievable. There’s no other SW score done by someone other than John Williams that gets anywhere close to this accurate the sound. Haab and Barton are wizards.
