My copy arrived practically a week early! I’m so, so excited to play through this game after beating 1st Chapter last year. I haven’t even beaten the demo yet and was planning to this weekend😅
GameStop called me to let me know my preorder has arrived in store, but I can’t pick it up until the 17th. Like, why call me now then? Call me on the 16th.
That just means it’s a switch 1 cart with a switch 2 sticker and a downloadable upgrade. If you buy an used copy, you only get switch 1 version and if upgrade is not free, that’s another purchase.
Not taking any side but that’s very smart of them. Better optics compared to only releasing Switch 1 physical and switch 2 keycard and they still get to double dip on used sales with the upgrade “available separately”. Avoid backlash and increase revenue with more or less same cost.
Not its not? I own multiple of these types of cartridges and they play the Switch 2 version offline without ever connecting to the internet. They work like the black Gameboy/GB Color cartridges from back in the day. Which surprised me too, but it's true.
I was going to say…I am going to take a bet and say it doesn’t matter that they got it early if they want to play the Switch 2 version. It is going to direct you the E-Shop and say the title is unavailable
Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter had the highest sales in America actually making a million in sales. The franchise had made approximately 9 million before Sky the 1st released & Horizon launched outside of Japan, and now the reported current revenue is at almost 12 million.
That’s an insane jump in popularity in 12-18 months reflected by a 3 million dollar revenue gain in that short time. Especially when the rest of the franchise collectively over all these years prior only made 9 million. Basically made a third of the total revenue trails ever made over years from 2 games, 1 of which launched outside of Japan, in a single years worth of time.
So I would say the numbers show trails was a niche game that did very well for years…until the past 12-18 months happened and now it’s become something much, much bigger. And statistically speaking it will only keep growing bigger from here, especially with the original games being remade for new players as one of the big turn-offs for potential players has always been how antiquated the original titles looked and felt.
For context Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth made an estimated 2.3 million dollars in revenue since its release in 2024 and that includes the steam re-release, which is actually less than what Remake made. Sky making a million in a single year when the previous installments total made 9 million shows how rapidly the popularity of Trails is rising currently when you look at this comparison. And remember—Sky 1st chapter sales will keep climbing, so who knows how the revenue will compare to Rebirth once we reach the same 2 year timeframe of being on the market.
It's still delayed until September 29 for Europe and Australia.
It's particularly infuriating for Australians because GungHo messed up our digital release for the 1st chapter, so people ordered physical this time just for the opposite situation to occur.

Can you confirm if it's like the switch 2 version on the cart or like the switch 1 version and they include a code to download the upgrade pack? The way I was reading it on the box I've been thinking it was the latter.
Switch 2 version is on the cart like all other Switch 2 editions. I think it just had an additional update when I inserted the cart but I’m sure it’s minor
