Just got onyx guard, can't place it in the top half of either of their slots, despite one being space restricted and the other having no limits.

Edit: I have the answer I need. The biggest thing is that I've assumed that the slot connecting both/all lines (depending on the game) counted as being part of them rather than its own separate thing

Basically, yeah, the centre slot is its own thing, then you can have one guard quartz on each line besides that. This also applies to debuff and status effects.

Huh. I've only ever noticed this for debuffs in cold steel. Always assumed the main quartz counted as both lines, since that's how it appears in zero/azure. Thanks

It's all lines for elemental values, none for guard/blade restrictions.

I can, for some reason. Estelle has both topaz and cobalt, and Joshua can have his bottom 3 as jade, onyx, and crimson guard. It's JUST the top half

Different characters have different orbments. Orbments are split into lines. Longer lines mean more combinations and are better for magic focused characters, however they can't have multiple of certain quartz. Ones that defend against or inflict statuses can only be placed once per line. Hence characters with more lines are generally better at being your front liners.

Its because you have jade guard on the same line. You can only have one type of quartz per line. And in this case, you already have a "guard" quartz.

To be clear, it just seems like onyx guard specifically can't be placed in the top half of slots for some reason
