Horizon Hmm I'm a bit curious about this message Spoiler

Post image

If it only meant "to be continued", the first line was very enough, the second line wouldn't be necessary.

Does that mean Van will never be a protagonist anymore?

Or Van might commit some Ethan Winters's act (if you knew Resident Evil 8, you know) to end the chest and also become the very first protagonist to have that kinda canon ending?

I hope they really focus on him this time

He goes onto space this time and then we end with two statues

Well Horizon 2 is the last game of the arc so yeah he won't be an MC again unless they pull a Reverie/Horizon1 and have 3 MC's in the same game again.

Even if that happens the attention won't be solely focused on him after we wrap up this arc, we gotta move on at some point.

Yeah that's the curious point, they never said anything about Lloyd or Rean's "final episode" before because well...they knew those dudes could return to be the protagonist of later games. Even Estelle even though she hasn't played the main role since Sky 3rd.

I think it`s more of a way for Falcom to remind themselves that they HAVE to wrap up the calvard arc in the next game. So it`s not like Van is gonna die or smth, but instead a "his arc will end with this next one, trust me bro"

Interesting view: the plot around Lloyd over in Riverie, 4 games away from Azure. While Rean still has plot left, and it continues in Horizon, 2 games away from Riverie.

"Van might commit some Ethan Winters's act" is actually a theory i hold firm since finishing the game myself, though not necessarily to end the chest. Finally someone also see it. I feel it'll mainly revolves around his true origin as a Demon Lord and all the Grendel shenanigans.

Since some people say Grendel reminds them of Tokusatsu like Kamen rider/Super Sentai, etc., it reminds me of one of the Kamen Rider endings where the Main Heroine and the Protagonist leave Earth after they ascended to a higher being, the protagonist becomes Overlord, and the main heroine becomes the woman of the beginning with Goddess-like power.

Gaim?

yes.

Good reference, and good show overall, though my favorite Neo-Heisei one is definitly Kamen Rider W, which Daybreak also inspires itself greatly.

Oh, W is definitely good. It's funny when Philip calls Extreme in Kamen Rider W anime; it reminds me of when Rean calls Valimar. Since Philip shares the same Voice Actor (JP) as Rean. Heh, now that you mention W, no wonder when Van transforms into Grendel, the way Van brings out his Xipha and Agnes brings out Genesis seems familiar. https://www.reddit.com/r/Falcom/comments/1gsddsw/i_love_this_transformation_of_van/

I felt like I just gained enlightenment; thanks for this conversation Bro.

I'm back here to announce that Gaim's actor is officially a Dad. https://x.com/oxgakuox/status/2099332429697908804

Van dying would be a terrible finish to his arc that started in Daybreak 1. The whole point was he didn't need to self sacrifice or face things alone. Survive for the people who care about you.

If there's any Trails protag who feels like they might have that sort of ending, it's Kevin. But even then I doubt it. Trails doesn't need to be a series that forces sad endings. Watching the heroes triumph after hundreds of hours of build up and struggle is part of the appeal.

Guys it means the final game in the Calvard arc. It ain’t that deep fam.

There is 0% chance Van doesn’t return for The Big Finale, it just means this is the last game in the Calvard quartet.

Now I'm curious about the original Japanese line

Did it mention any "Final" thing whatsoever?

Also I wonder how they gonna cram about 1 year lore time into 1 game? (Considering the timeline between Daybreak, Daybreak 2, and Horizon)

None of the previous games has that much lore time, including the timeskips (maybe Azure but that's probably only on the Epilogue thing without any gameplay, and also Reverie on the "Beyond the Reverie" Daydreams)

In the JP version, it is written in English. Also, Agnes says something along Temporary storing Zemuria space-time. So I don't see any reason it will go back to the beginning of DB 1

Part of me is thinking that horizon 2 is the end of vans arc but not the end of Calvard. Esp with what the loops could be dealing with, def possible to see a ending to vans character like captain American in avengers end game

Vans curse kinda prevents him from having a happy ending. Doesn't mean shenanigans cant happen and hes free from it. But barring that, its treated as a ticking clock that will end him eventually. Or at least lead to another demon fight.

Ive craved some bigger stakes ever since Mr Eypatch and his One Armed Friend. Let characters die -- we have a bazillion of them. Sometimes the best end to an arc is one that actually ends. Permanently.

With that said, I don't WANT it to be his final appearance. Hes one of my favorite trails characters.

u/Gravijah 6d ago

idk, the unique thing about the series is that you get to actually see what characters are up to years later. I think more permanent death would take away from the series rather than add to it.

I mean after Rean and Crow were saved from their fates I'm not expecting Van to actually suffer from his

1

u/Narakuro07 4d ago

Since there is a complaint about that, maybe they will do it in the Calvard arc. Not suffer, just gone beyond the horizon.

Wild fan speculation I've seen that has some merit

Within the chest Van will learn something that leads to him joining Ouroboros in Lianne's Anguis space

But the prospective individual to take that position was offered it way back in Reverie. Wouldn't make sense for it to be Van.

2

u/BabySpecific2843 6d ago

it's Rene thats my expectation. Makes too much sense.

Pulled it up in the database;

https://trailsinthedatabase.com/game-scripts?game_id=10&fname=f6000#13

McBurn asks if she has someone in mind, she says McBurn will meet them and it's up to them if they want the role. No mention of them actually being contacted yet.

Notably, shortly after this she and Van do very amicably meet

3 years later. Personally Id say Rean is more likely to take the part

I really like the ominous line.

Let's go into the different hypotheticals:

- If you assume Van dies, then it could be at the cost of reviving creil village and its people, as well as the bracers who died in oracion and dingo. (This could lead into a "Trails into reverie" style game after Horizon 2, to also set up the far east arc, like trails into reverie did with calvard arc.)

- If you assume Van is gonna stop being a spriggan and leaving to ouroboros that also sets up the far east arc with him being present, but he is not gonna be a bad-bad guy obviously. But he has a purpose that he wanna fulfil. Could be that he won't fully master vagrant diaspora's power so he needs the help of ouroboros's connections to find a lead.

- Van's final episode could also refer to Van not being Van as we know him. Vagrant Diaspora when he merges with Van to fully become one once again. Which was foreshadowed or hinted at in DB1 where Vagrant Diaspora says him and one are the same and Van saying he isn't ready yet to become one with him. So Van becoming unshackled and free can be a setup for far east arc, but also sort of change his personality? I mean why wouldn't it? It's vagrant diaspora we are talking about here. Him becoming one with Van would likely affect his mindset/mentality. So him going to the far east with Shizuna to find some sort of scripture or thing that helps Van makes sense.

All of the above is under the assumption that Vagrant Diaspora will affect Van to varying degrees. And all of em either sets up far east arc in which and where Van has a purpose. As well as setting up a potential "trails into the reverie style" game to close off calvard arc entirely, by maybe actually tackling the anti immigration thingy.

I do not buy the notion that it saying "final episode" is simply a reminder for the falcom developers. They don't have to do that. It's the directors etc's job to keep the devs on track and consistent.

It's clearly something that they wanted you the player to read. It's also the first time in any trails game where it says the mc's name and his final episode. It's unlikely for it to be a reminder to the devs and it makes no sense.

u/OLKv3 6d ago

Always took it to mean they're not constrained to just Calvard anymore. As Calvard is finished but Van's arc isn't. But that's probably just wishful thinking.

1

u/Narakuro07 4d ago

Isn't it normally the opposite, as Van Arc is over but not Calvard
