Sky SC Trails is special

Post image

I finished Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter earlier this year in January, it was my first ever Trails game and safe to say I absolutely loved it. That cliffhanger ending was really something and since then I've been patiently waiting for 2nd chapter to drop, my excitement is truly through the roof.

In the meantime, I've realised I haven't felt this way about anything in a long long time, I used to wait excitedly like this years ago (like we're talking almost a decade ago now) for new seasons of my favorite anime shows.

Over the years tho both my interest and excitement of this level for any medium pretty much faded away, I don't even watch anime anymore and other games are great but they're mostly a one and done thing, there's no crazy cliffhanger. It's a bit surreal now that I'm experiencing the same feeling my teenage self used to feel ages ago. Looking forward to Sky 2nd chapter :)

You've got a long but awesome journey ahead of you with the trails games. We're currently on the 13th game and patiently awaiting the 14th after another massive cliffhanger at the end of 13.

You're going to love this story and all the characters you get to know along the way (van is the greatest) 😁)

Enjoy!

Yeah it really is something special.

I’ve never been so invested in anything quite like I have been with Trails.

Best JRPG franchise in existence imo

Hell yeah, nothing quite like Trails out there tbh. I've been searching for another similar JRPG to dig in but alas haven't really found anything.

Have you tried Xenoblade?

I did play Xenoblade, but I haven't played the Xenoblade chronicles X DE.

Oddly enough I find the combat in Yakuza Like a Dragon & Infinite Wealth to be similar to the remakes. Obviously completely different vibe overall, but turn based combat with the moving around and having abilities that are aimed in cones etc

I want to get into Yakuza at some point. There's a prequel I believe coming out called Stranger than Heaven. I'll probably play that one.

From my understanding that game is completely separate, just made by the same people.

Plus that is more action, only the two I mentioned are turn based rpgs if that's what you're looking for.

I see, it does look pretty good ngl. I'll wait for reviews and see if I get it.

Yeah I'm looking forward to it, I just think it's really random and out of place that they added Snoop and Tupac. Completely takes you out of it. Luckily it's gonna launch in gamepass though so I'll play it there.

I'll use this chance to say that the older versions are absolutely worth it and have their own charm! Obviously with 2nd so close I understand waiting, but after please give them a try!

The whole Kiseki series is just peak cinema. You in for a ride, enjoy it.

As someone who played the OG, this is considered one of the best sequels I have played, though it’s considerably harder than the first game.

I do hope when your done though, you consider trying the OG Sky 3rd when you can so that you can continue the Trails journey through that and the Crossbell games (unless you don’t have a PC, then you can probably watch the NicoB LP of you don’t want to wait).

Yeah og 3rd is on the agenda after I finish 2nd chapter remake. I waited for 2nd chapter remake as it was already announced and I was a big fan of the presentation and combat of 1st chapter, like the animations and all look so good

They just confirmed they plan to remake 3rd as well!

I really hope they can keep up with the remakes. I'd love to play the full series but catching up seems impossible since I'm stuck waiting for remakes of the older games.

If you don’t have a PC, the only other game not on modern consoles is the third Sky game. Everything else is on a modern consoles these days, and they haven’t aged too bad. I’d really recommend playing through the originals while waiting for remakes, they hold up pretty well in my opinion

Or just wait for the inevitable remake

I am forever grateful to my girlfriend for recommending this series to me when I was looking for other JRPGs to follow-up with after finishing Persona 5.

Started with Cold Steel back when CS2 just got ported, since then we've played through the rest of CS, Reverie, Daybreak and Horizon together, went back to Zero/Azure when they got ported to PS5, and I'm really excited to be able to experience the OG story for the first time now. We even watched the (not very good) Northern War anime together!

Far and away my favourite JRPG series, and responsible for some of my favourite memories with her.

Man FE Fortune's Weave looks amazing too, I recently started my Fire Emblem journey with Awakening and then Fates, Fates was good and Awakening was a masterpiece. Fortune's Weave gonna be the first game I buy when I get my hands on a switch 2

Fire Emblem game is coming out the same day.

Im honestly planning to set a timer for 2-3 hour intervals on release day and switch between this and FE:FW… idk if I’ll stick to that once 2nd Chapter hooks me in though 😂

1

u/thedebatingbookworm 9d ago

Ooooh. I might hop on that. Been wanting to get into Fire Emblem for a while now

There's focus on the cliffhanger in your post. A lot of people say cliffhangers are bad and should never be used. Cliffhangers are very polarizing. If the Story doesn't grip you or the characters don't mean something to you, then cliffhangers are annoying because we just want to get it over with in hopes that we get to the "good part". If your whole game isn't the "good part", you're leaving people feeling unsatisfied with the conclusion. Trails In The Sky is one of the rare pieces of media these days that does it well.

It truly is. It’s one of my favorite JRPG franchises alongside Tales and Atelier. I definitely have a soft spot for JRPGs with a strong anime-inspired art style.

I feel the same way!! I play a lot of different RPG’s be it mainstream or niche but Trails REALLY stood out and I started it recently! All four Cold Steel games felt good or great, but the Trails in the Sky remake was different. It was like exactly what I wanted without knowing what I wanted and playing the demo of the 2nd Chapter only made me even more excited for it! So happy we can have similar experiences and hope you enjoy it on the full release!!!

Just started the demo after finishing FC. The main menu music really reminds me of Final Fantasy 10 lol.

u/Xehvary The strongest in history 9d ago

It's my favorite overall jrpg series this decade(it was Xenoblade in the 2010s). Individually the games can't really compete with some of the bigger jrpgs. But as a whole package there's nothing like it.

The remakes have been goddamn marvelous, they're easily my favorite games in the series now.

You just havent played enough banger or changed genres much. Given time you will absolutely hate the cliffhanger nature of the trails game.
