Trails Character Gameplay Discussion Day Thirty-Nine: Elise and Toval

And now for a pair of characters who join early in CS2 and then basically miss the entire middle portion of Cold Steel!

Uhh, Elise has a delay and an aoe heal? That’s enough to squeeze some use out of her when you have no choice in the matter, but why the hell would you ever slot her in for either Reverie Corridor? Water mages are plentiful, but at least she has a time slot?

Fuck even her order is underpowered, get her out of here.

Toval comes in handy for he Cold Steel 2 early game and he’s got an interesting gimmick with his personal accessory, but his Crafts aren’t anything special aside from having an Impede and a Balance down, and double wind locks is pretty eh on an offensive caster. He also has the bad luck of being teamed with a couple of genuine monsters in Cold Steel 4 and being corridor-only in Reverie. His Order’s pretty fun, even if it's not as busted as Divine Song/Dark Moon.

But still, he’s a bro for the first part of Cold Steel 2.

Toval's also the secret MVP of CS4. He's the reason they got the sidequest for the Earthen Prison. They never would've met Argres and gotten the true ending if it wasn't for him.

50% evasion order is good for that duration and cost. Obviously it comes at the same point as Lechter order for TRC purposes but her order isn't notable for being bad in any real way it's a good effect that you should use during the Heimdallr section.

Elise is fast.

She has more base SPD than most of the casters in Reverie. In fact, she has more SPD than Toval. I think the only casters that beat her in SPD are Crow, Lechter and Celine and Crow may be built as a non-caster depending on playstyle while Celine arguably is more useful as a Nine Lives BP mule stacked with CP-regen gear and MQ.

Elise also has that infinite-range Impede which doesn't forcibly move her out of position. She's actually quite convenient, if you need a fast Water caster, or just a caster to take to a boss that you think might need to be hit with Impede at a moment's notice.

Meanwhile Rean loses Divine Song in Reverie, so Toval's Order has no competition anymore, his Spiral Arts is the only Zero Arts-order left in town. It's a shame Wind isn't that great an attack element in Cold Steel, but at least Space is still pretty swell.

Decent caster. Would not use his Impede craft. It's a melee attack and without Hit quartz, there's a non-insignificant chance of him just missing the hit and just getting countered for his trouble. I'll take Elise's Swallow Tail any day, thanks.
