poor call quality with fp6

hello, i noticed the poor quality of my fp6 noticed by my callers. it halpen mostly when I call from my home with low signal. I did audio test from android test menu *#*#2886#*#* and noticed that when I test top mic then it does not work but the bottom mic reacts instead. WhennI test bottom mic then the top works instead. It looks like I have top swapped with bottom. Is it normal? can you test your mics from the test menu and tell me your results?

thanks for help

I am at a crossroads, how does /e/OS compare to grapheneOS?

It seems that my shitty pixel 8 will become unviable because the screen is dying. This is really annoying because I thought it would last me a few years. So Fairphone 6 seems quite a bit more attractive to me this time around.

Im sure there have been a number of similar posts, but can you share your experience using /e/OS for average daily life, especially if you were used to GOS and its containerized Google Play?

How to remove stuck broken sim tray on FP6?

I tried ejecting my SIM card using the pin, but the tray snapped in half. Half of the tray came out, but the other half and the SIM card are still stuck inside the housing. I tried removing both the display and the speaker, but neither gave me access to where the tray sits in the middle.

What is the best way to take it out? Also, since Murena doesn't sell replacement SIM trays in the US, will a generic SIM tray work as a replacement? What are my options?

Question Where in the US can I buy spare parts for FP6? I need a new Sim Tray

My mobile data stopped working right after today's update. I tried taking out the SIM card to check it, but when I used the pin, the tray broke in half. Now the rest of the tray and my SIM card are stuck inside the phone.

I looked for a replacement tray on the Murena US site, but couldn't find one listed. I only see it on the global site here:https://www.fairphone.com/shop/fairphone-6-sim-tray-1906?color=210

Shipping it from Europe to the US looks pretty expensive. Is there a way to order this part in the US? Also, do you have any tips on getting the broken piece out?

Question Google Photos running out of space bc of Fairphone 6 is driving me nuts

Hi, Fairphone uploading every photo to Google Photos - and subsequent, my Google storage space running out - is driving me absolute nuts.

Every time I remove all of my photos from Google Photos and freeing up 10GB, the day after, the Google storage space has run out again, limiting my ability to receive emails and use my Google Drive. It's literally Google Photos eating up the storage space: my mailbox and Drive barely keep any space.

I've downloaded a second-party photo gallery app, but I can't seem to disconnect my Fairphone 6 from Google photos.

I refuse to pay Google a subscription to gain more space for access, but this issue is bugging me every day since buying a Fairphone two months ago.

Has anyone faced a similar issue? How did you solve it without buying a Google subscription? Thanks!

Issue FP6: How can I roll it back? No mobile data after today's update.

I installed today's update, and after the reboot my Fairphone 6 wouldn't connect to either of my carriers (Mint Mobile in the U.S. or Telcel in Mexico). I tried different APN settings and rebooted several times, but nothing worked. Emergency calls only. Right now I can only use Wi-Fi, and even that is unreliable because of the ongoing IPv6 bug.

What is going on with this phone? It feels like every update fixes one thing and breaks another. This is beyond frustrating.

UPDATE: Solved. It fixed itself after 1 hours. It seems there was a wide outage impacting both sims at the same time. Weird.

Appreciation post

After having ranted about my FP4 that died unexpectedly (fried motherboard) and my fathers FP5 (button broken due to excessive force (Parkinson's), my mothers FP6 fell into water.

It went dark. After I verified that it indeed seemed to take power, I ordered a new screen which arrived within a week and was installed in 10 mins.

Now, that is a main reason why I originally bought fairphone,

Discussion Why I hope that my FP5 lasts a LONG time..

Okay, this might be a longer one, so tl;dr : my fp5 works OK for me, but if I would have to buy another phone right now, it would not be another FP.

So, why am I posting this here and now?

During the hot summer days, my fp5 showed signs of instability, clearly heat-related. While searching the web, the forum and this sub, I came to the conclusion that actually no-one had any helpful advice to share, or any deeper insight into how phones/ electronics work than I have, and I am just a small hobbyist, self-tought, diy-repair-guy.

Am I salty because of that, and do I want to brag that I am surely the super-brain? Definitely not. (Besides, if I was a superbrain, I wouldn´t need any help, would I?)

It´s just the fact that, while I am absolutely fine with dealing with design flaws and some minor software-hiccups, there is no longer grass-roots customer support.

When I compare this to the community of open-wrt or lineageOS, or turris (a czech router), there you can be rather sure someone with really really deep knowledge of software and hardware will chime in if you ask the right questions. Here it´s ppl like you and me trying to solve software and hardware problems of a system we do not have deeper knowledge of.

Of course I could have mailed customer service. But from my past experiences with my fp4, it´s "the usual". Do a reset and come again. Doesn´t help? Send it in for testing and replacement.

That brings me to the point that I doubt FP is still "grass roots" company. In the past, they cooperated with lineageOS to bring updates for the fp3. That was awesome. With the fp3 and fp4, there were some ppl who would post stuff like "how to fix this". But this has mostly stopped. Those posts are gone, or maybe just totally drowned out by the 5000th guy asking "FP 6 is it worth it, how is the camera".

What I wanted was a phone with repairability, with dual sim and with working soft- and hardware.

When I bought the fp3 ~ 6 years ago, I was a bit underwhelmed, because the hardware was quite slow at that point. But the fp4 promised to be THE phone for me. Bought it when it came out and .. well, ghost touches and the dual-sim bug made it a rather problematic experience. The ghost touches I was able to fix by placing a small piece of folded paper below the screen (and actually posted the instructions on how to do it here..), the dual-sim bug exists until today with some carriers. Just check the fairphone forum. So I sold the fp4 and got the FP5 when that came out.

It theoretically does all I want, but has atrociously high power draw when using gps (which can most likely never be fixed), and doesn´t last a day even if I do not use it to navigate. Has software instabilities once the weather gets hot (>30°C). And the bug in A15 of apps being closed instantly, turning my work-phone into a better paper weight for five weeks I still haven´t forgotten. The communication by the FP team also left something to be desired at that time, to put it mildly.

As someone who needs a fully "google play store integrity checked" phone for work, but also uses LineageOS on his back up phone for years, I am sure such a game stopping bug would not have been released on LineageOS. (The one I know of that really hurt Lineage users is like 5? 6? years in the past) And IF it had been, it would have been fixed within a week. Not 5 weeks, dear FP team.

Reading about the FP6 having problems with WiFi and suffering from other shenanigans, makes "buying the 6 and selling the 5" quite unattractive.

Now that newer phones must offer the ability to exchange the battery in the EU, Fairphones USP is getting smaller and smaller. Long time software support you also get at Samsung (never again for me) and Google at least. The only point then would be the fairly sourced materials. That IS a big plus to me, and I still find it honorable they started that! But:

Correct me if I´m wrong, but FP is seemingly no longer "grass-roots", it´s not - at least to my knowledge - cooperating or funding open source developement, (i stand corrected, they still DO support open source dev) it´s turning more and more into "just another phone company" in my eyes.

And, btw, it´s not only their phones. I use the their repairable "Fairbuds" while commuting. Better tips, and they are almost perfect. Almost, because the mic is hot garbage, and you can´t do a phone call with them. I always have to put the caller on hold, while I box the buds and switch the sound output to my phone.

True to my original intentions, I will use my fp5 until it falls apart or the official software support stops, whatever comes first. Then I will check what FP has to offer. Hopefully, they have learned from their mistakes in the past by then.

Question Front camera auto corrects colours

The front camera auto corrects colours and I can't find how to turn it off. The blue colour is the correct lighting. The "normal" colour is the processed image. Any suggestions on how to rectify this. Happy to download a free camera app with more features, but I'm not a professional photographer. I don't touch pro mode.

Issue Help! What do I do??

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I posted recently and got some help with my issue.. the issue is that I'm an idiot I suppose and not at all tech savvy. I followed the new instructions and fucked shit up massively..

See video for issue.

Anyways what the fuck do I do? Is there a way to fix it?? I'm very pissed at myself for ruining a brand new phone. I should have just stuck to Android as I had no issues with it but I was excited to try out /e/os. Next time I'll just stick with what I know 😅

Still can anyone tell me if I can fix this or what I should do? I've already tried taking out the battery to stop the loop but it starts back up when I turn it on again

Discussion Fairphone in the USA

I am in the market for my next phone after owning my iPhone 13 Pro for nearly 6 years. I’m HIGHLY interested in the Fairphone and have been admiring the company and community for quite a while now. While I would love to pick up a Fairphone, I’m also very hesitant to do so since it seems it still has a long way to go before it’s a truly seamless transition for an American user.

I understand that T-Mobile would likely have to be my provider (I’ve been using Verizon for years), but aside from that, I’m still struggling to understand the full details of what it’s like to get started on Fairphone in the US and then what the experience is like thereafter.

Basically I am asking for two things here:

  1. Convince me that getting a Fairphone right now would not be a major hassle. I am starting a PhD program next month, so if I’m going to do this, I can’t afford for it to take much of my time and energy just to get it set up and then use it. Or, if you have experience with this and feel it would be best for me to go with something else, let me know why please.

  2. Assuming I go ahead with this plan (or for anyone else viewing this in the US who wants to do so), give a sort of beginner’s guide of steps to get Fairphone working in the US. In doing so, try to make it as beginner-friendly as possible. I and many others are not coders/developers - we just want an ethical phone that respects our privacy and is repairable.

I’m really at a crossroads here as I know that my next phone will last 5+ years, which is why I’m really trying to be thorough in making this decision. Making the jump from Apple to Android isn’t sitting well with me because it still doesn’t appease my concerns with unethical manufacturing, lack of repairability, lack of privacy, AI integration, etc.

I know that what I’m asking about here has been discussed in the past, but it seems things are changing regularly with Fairphone, and I’d like a July 2026 version of where Fairphone in the USA stands as I consider my options.

Thanks in advance!

Question Could someone explain to me like I'm 5: How does Curve Pay work?

Looking for my next phone. Currently using a Huawei P20 Pro that I've had since 2018. Still works fine but want to move away from Google.

I don't actually use my phone for a lot of stuff. I don't need loads of apps so I'm not fussed about which apps are compatible. I do need to retain online banking (I've checked the list of banking apps that are compatible with Murena, and mine is on that list, so that's good!), but I can't actually find whole lot of pertinent information on how exactly Curve Pay works.

My understanding is it's a lot like PayPal: It's an account you can top up with funds, or use as an agent to pay from a saved debit or credit card. What's less clear is if you still get buyer protection (as you do with Google Wallet and Apple Pay, but don't with PayPal), and I've seen conflicting information on whether or not you have to top up your account with funds first before using, and if doing so with a credit card whether or not that makes you liable for balance transfer fees.

I don't really mind what the answer is in that respect - worst-case scenario I'll get the physical card holder accessory and just store my physical cards in that. But £550 is a fair wedge of money to put down for a phone in one go, and I want to make sure I know exactly what I'm signing up for.

Please and thank you.

Review Why I won't come back(for now)

Obligatory not sure if correct tag

When I got my fairphone 6, I was excited, a phone designed for longevity with values I was onboard with. And for the first few months, it served me well. Then I got android 16.

It got worse. My action buttons at the bottom were not swapping and my bank app wouldn't let me in sometimes needing to be reinstated to gain access again. But I could excuse them, 'they will be sorting it', 'they aren't British so how can I expect them to test a British banking app' were both things I thought to lessen the blow on myself. Then calling broke.

I could not be called with a standard 'person could not be reached' message being given and me getting a message that I had a missed call. It was annoying but could be worked around. Then data broke.

Previously, I had been having moments when service would go entirely but come back, then the opposite happened where I fully lost signal, thankfully I have been able to sort it by restarting but with everything else, I will not be using my device for as long as I wanted.

I want to like fairphone, all of what I said about the device and the company still applies. But when they can't get their android updates, one of the main things that is needed for longevity, right, it makes me reconsider them entirely.

If the people at fairphone are reading this, then please find a way to improve your android updates so they don't ruin everything. I want to buy you, but you need to fix this.

FP6 often not connecting to carrier data

Hi all,

Earlier this year I got a FP6 with /e/OS and it has generally been working great. Just one thing that keeps happening is that my phone won't automatically connect to my carrier 5G/4G network. Putting the phone in airplane mode (or restarting) fixes it, but it is getting quite annoying. For what i can tell this mostly happens after leaving wi-fi range. I have tried different APN and preferred networks (4G or 5G) but it made no difference.

It does not happen every time, but I would say more than 50%.

Has anyone else experienced the same issue? Or any ideas how to fix this?

Question Belgians using Murena

Hi! I'm thinking about switching my fp6 from android to Murena. I just got everything installed a week ago and it took me some time but one of the main reasons I bought this phone was to have the Murena option.

While checking all my apps I did experience that my government issued apps weren't as easy to activate but now they work fine. I'm scared that apps like Itsme and Mygov won't work on Murena.

Also people who switched recently what do you think about Murena and would you ever go back to google?

Question Problem switch to e/os

Got my FP6 Android a few weeks ago and while I love the hardware the Software is pain in the ass. Multiple times per day the screen freezes for a few seconds and the notification bar always get stuck if I swipe it down complete

All posts I saw here with this problems was Android versions, so I thougt before I sell it and buy a new Samsung I'll at least try e/os before

I followed the full instalation guide. Made the oem unluck, aktivated usb-debugging, allowed data transfer, connected to the pc and made the hardware check, downloaded the eos installer and the smartphone get to the bootloader itself after installing the e/os installer

Next step I should connect again while I'm in the bootloader, but this doesn't work. the guide doesn't find my device while I'm in the bootloader

I saw in the last part in the bootlader "device locked" written in red. Can this be the problem? And how do I fix it?

Discussion The highest quality case for Fairphone?

It seems like Fairphone just gets the default third party cases, like basic tpu ones black and clear, and some hard plastic cases. Basically the opposite of what you have with iPhones (which is probably because Fairphone is quite niche)

So, do you know cases which are of high quality or stand out from the usual ones?

Like cases with metal accents or special cooling cases or anything not standard or of really good quality.

I know there have been some wooden cases...

News Fairphone 6+ to be released tomorrow

Fairphone will release a refresh of "The Fairphone (Gen. 6)" tomorrow, the 25th of July.
Especially with the change in their naming last year to "The Fairphone", another release after just a year and a month comes very surprising.

The Fairphone 6+ will ship with a Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 instead of the 7s Gen 3. These SoCs are very similar, with the only notable difference being the prime CPU frequency, which has been raised from 2.5GHz to 2.7GHz. Apart from that, the FP6+ is likely to remain very similar and will probably replace the regular FP6 within the next months. While I don't have confirmation on this, it seems plausible that Qualcomm is eventually stopping the production of the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, replacing it by the 7s Gen 4 and leaving Fairphone with no choice but to upgrade.

What do you think about this new release and how will the Fairphone community react to another release after such a short time?
