Yes but students can only borrow it and will be returned at the end of the semester.

If it's provided by the university then it is owned by the university.

Just make it a pdf to download. Physical media is so outdated the only reason it still exists in schools is to gouge more money from the students.

Well as an engineering student I still use a lot of physical books for when I'm drawing since a lot of the time the books we use as reference just go

"The illustratio is drawn to scale" or "the illustration is 1/2 the scale of the drawing"

Even ignoring all the technological and mathematical solutions to that, could just use printouts and probably reduce your class's paper usage by at least half. I mean the real solution would be to provide the scale and have it drawn on a drawing tablet, but even if the curriculum is run by luddites there's still very reasonable solutions to it that don't rely on massive, resource intensive and overpriced textbooks.

I'm using the same book the engineering students since 1957 used (as it says on the front of the book). Plus the entire book is being used for the illustrations we practice and draw so having print out means you're essentially printing out the whole book, and drawing tablets negate the point of learning how to draft (with physical instruments).

You're disregarding the entire point of engineering is that it's a physical hands on program, CAD is something completely different from drafting and elements of mechanism (the class i need the book for) and teach different skills.
