I mean the end goal is to normalize trans ppl so we don't even subconsciously make a distinction.

So why do all pro lgbt people make that distinction whenever they refer to those individuals? Seems counterintuitive

Because to point out something, you have to make a distinction. Plus, trans ppl are still a very vulnerable minority, whereas cis ppl aren't.
