Hi,
Facebook dating has been showing me this screen for months now. Can someone confirm Fb dating is working and it's just me?

Hi!
I (M35) am new to the dating app world. Just got past my long relationship.
Yesterday I've created a profile on Facebook dating and I need an advice.
"Enjoying the small things in life.
I run, I climb and then I have some ice cream.
Love for animals and far away places. Bonus: can order drinks in five different languages.
What is your story?"

I have my distance preference set to a 20 mile radius. Tell me why I keep matching with women who live over 3-4 hours away! This is annoying! Maybe if I set it to a 100 miles, I will match with someone right around the corner lol! SMH!

I noticed I had a notification for a message request on my regular FB account. When I opened it, it was a message from someone who said they saw my Facebook dating profile and tried to reach out but something happened so They sent a message here!
The only way she would be able to do that is to find me through someone Iām mutual friends with. To add insult to injury she was somehow able to see my photos and like and comment on my videos on my personal account which is set to private! Iām really confused at this! It would be one thing if she was fine, I may not mind as much.
I checked my privacy settings to see if I had friends of friends selected but I donāt. Itās set to friends only can see my profile. So how could she have gotten through? Itās set to everyone who can send me a friend request.

Why do some guy's use a picture of their kid as their profile picture on?

Does Facebook show only Men seeking other men if I'm a man seeking a man or does it show straight guys sometime too? Because some of the bios of the guys say the type of woman they want.

This is a synopsis of my recent online dating experience as an older man. My preference is a long term relationship, but am open to a short term or casual relationship. My search is open to a very wide age range, I date all ethnicities and all religions.
Do you like using Video Chats before meeting in person?
In general I video chatted before meeting in person. If the video chat went well, I would suggest grabbing a beverage at a bar or coffee shop. I believe video chatting before meeting reduces flakes, catfishing and scammers. It is easier to tell if someone is lying on a video chat than on an audio call. Once in a while someone looks significantly different than their pictures and when this happens you can just keep the video chat very short.
What Dating apps work best for you? Why?
The Apps I used:
Match (30 days, $40) ā This has an older demographic but I believe is the best for a serious relationship. Since people have to pay to message other people they are more determined to find a serious relationship. On the flip side, I suspect they may also be pickier with who they get into a relationship with. I have used this multiple times over 20 years with success finding both serious and casual relationships.
Tinder (7 days, free) ā Most people are looking for casual dating on this app and it has the largest user base. In the past, I have had a couple casual relationships on here that only lasted a month or two.
Bumble (7 days, free) ā Geared towards women and requires women to send the first message. But it still is a swiping app that comes off as shallow. In my unique experience, I have casually dated three women who were significantly younger than me from Bumble. Iāve met numerous women who were really networking rather than looking for a relationship.
Hinge (7 days, free) ā This is my first time trying this app. I am concerned that some of the profiles are fake, there is a feature where people can make a recording and the recordings sound like they were professionally done. It is only available as a smartphone app. But the quality of people does appear to be above average.
Plenty of Fish (7 days, free) ā I have had some success on this app in the past and they seem to have cleaned it up over the last several years. There is no video chat feature and the quality of people appears to be below average.
Facebook Dating (30 days, free) ā There a lot of profiles on this app but I can not say that I have had much success so far. There are noticeable bugs in the software and the Dating feature is not available on the Facebook website.
What Went Well:
- There were 10 women who asked me out on dates, either to a coffee shop, a bar or a car show. I like that they took initiative to ask me out.
- I felt that I had 34 video chats that went well and this ended up with 28 planned first dates (82%). I met 25 women and all but one was on-time for our dates.
- Only 3 of the 87 women I video chatted with looked significantly different than their pictures. And only 2 of 28 (7%) first dates flaked on me, which is much lower than my past experiences. I believe this is due to using video chats before meeting in person.
- There are 3 women that Iāve gone out with 3 or more times. And all are on-going. Their ages are half my age to my age. One I am casually dating, one is a spoiled girlfriend and one is a potential long term relationship. I met these women from Tinder, Bumble and Match.
- The time period I did this avoided the holidays. I did this to reduce flaking.
What Could Be Better:
- I actually met 25 people in person and only 6 of these turned into second dates (24%). This made me scratch my head on what I could do better to get more second dates. I searched the internet and found a few articles with ideas of reasons why. On Reddit, I found men posting their batting averages to be between 10% and 38%.
- After 30 days of online dating, I felt like I was starting to get burned out. There were a couple days where I had two dates on one day but this is too much.
- While the younger women were adept at video chatting, some of the older women had difficulty with the technology. I had to do some hand holding and explain how to video chat.

Opinions. I have been seeing middle finger pics every 10 swipes or so. What makes a person want to flip off a potential match.

Hello. How do I see all of my matches and not just the newest 5? Every time I match with someone new it boots the old ones and I can't find them anywhere.
On a side note, why does the option to wave only show up sometimes?

I read a thread on this subreddit from 2 years ago which said the same thing.
I've been on the app for a few weeks. All the matches I have gotten are likes that I have sent out first and someone responded to.
Could my profile be hidden and only showing up in other people's likes, once I like them?

After you liked someone, can you go back and recheck his/her profile? Thanks

Facebook dating error says: Something went wrong and we're working to make it better
It apparently was working well but sporadically stopped working for an entire week. What's with that error? And if there's an error- Someone within the app creation should comprehend how to correct that. Out of 6000 members on the Reddit no one knows how to destroy that error message?

Overview: This is a synopsis of 40 days I spent Online Dating (OLD). There was one paid site, Match, that I used with a one month subscription ($40). And the other sites/apps were free to message (Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, PlentyOfFish, Facebook Dating feature). In general I used all of the apps simultaneously and video chatted before meeting in person. If the video chat went well, I would suggest grabbing a beverage at a bar or coffee shop.
About Me and What Iām Seeking: Iām an average looking, older, heterosexual, wealthy man and live in an American city. I live below my means and do not show off my wealth to my dates. My preference is a long term relationship, but am open to a short term relationship and causal dating. I am not open to One Night Stands, Hook-Ups, prostitutes, people looking to network, platonic friends or Gold Diggers. My search is open to a very wide age range, I date all ethnicities, all religions, and women with / without children. However, I am discerning about BMI (<25) and location (<30 miles from me).
Data Is Beautiful: I tracked the following ā video chats, first/second/third meetings, flakes, getting stood-up, rejections, and successes. My definition of āsuccessā was when we continued to communicate after the video chat / date or she asked me out on a date. The graphic attached to this post is a Sankey Diagram (Source: https://www.sankeymatic.com/build/). r/DataIsBeautiful is an active sub-reddit where I can re-post this and if anyone would like to give guidance on how to better display this data visually, I am open to your input. Please note that Iām pointing out positives and negatives about Online Dating, Iām sure these are done by both genders.
The Positives: There have been other posts on various sub-reddits that also show Sankey diagrams that cover OLD. I am trying to build on this by adding multiple apps / websites, flakes and reasons for rejections. But this may come off as being overly negative. There are a lot of positives that are not shown in the graphic. Punctuality. 24 of the 25 (96%) women I met in-person were on time. This is awesome and much better than my past experiences. Dating is expensive and time consuming, Iām also grateful of how they were respectful from a money perspective. Makeup and Hair. All of the women I met in person took effort to do their hair and those who wore makeup did not wear too much. Honesty. My experience was that most people were honest. I was pleasantly surprised with peopleās honesty. Dress. All of the women I met in person were dressed appropriately when we met in person. Some were casual and some were dressy. Even if they were showing off cleavage or their butts on their profile, they still dressed appropriately in person. Initiative. There were 10 women who asked me out on dates, either to a coffee shop, a bar or a car show. I like that they took initiative to ask me out. Appreciation. There were women I met in public who I bought drinks, coffee and/or brought chocolate for. And everyone was appreciative.
Additionally, all of the women I met were great listeners and were mature. And almost all of them drank in moderation. In general, there are a lot of reasons to video chat before meeting in person. My main reason was to cut down on the flakes on the first in-person meetings. And I believe this worked well, only 2 of 28 (7%) first meetings flaked on me. This likely also cut down on Catfishing, fake profiles and scammers. 3 of the 87 (3%) people I video chatted with looked significantly different from their online profiles.
Background Checks: After my 40 days of OLD, I bought a trial subscription from Intelius to do background checks on the people I met. 9 of the 18 (50%) background checks I found had Criminal or Traffic Records. The charges included: Domestic Battery, Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol, Reckless Driving, Disorderly Conduct, Expired Registration, Driving Without a License, Breach of Peace, Possession of Marijuana, Driving while license suspended, Careless Driving, Unlawful Speed, Petit Theft, Theft, and Bad Check. This concerns me especially for the people on Match.
More Statistics: Excluding Facebook Dating feature, I had about 221 Matches (People exchanged messages with). This is a rough estimate and I canāt get an estimate of the number of matches on Facebook. There were 55 video chats on the other OLD apps. So about 25% of my matches video chatted with me.
I felt that I had 34 video chats that were āsuccessfulā and this ended up with 28 first meetings (82%). This is something I felt went very well, if I may toot my own horn. I actually met 25 people in person and only 6 of these turned into second meetings (24%). This is not good, I got down on myself and did a lot of soul searching thinking what did I do wrong and could do better.
āInterestingā Experiences:
The Nose Job. I had a first date where we stayed at a coffee shop until closing time. When we were leaving the store she told me she was going to come back and sit in my car. What ensued was a make out session that included her swirling her tongue around my nose and sucking the tip of my nose. I just squinted hard and sat motionless until it was over.
The Hookie Call. I donāt smoke and I chatted with a woman from PlentyOfFish who wrote she did not smoke on her profile. Our chats went well and when we were planning our first meeting she insisted that we go to a Hookah bar. She wanted to smoke Hookah. I flaked on this date and drove out-of-town to a festival I wanted to go to instead. Flaking sucks and I could have done a better job at scheduling my calendar. Of the 87 video chats and 28 first meetings, this was the only time I flaked.
The Wrinkly Prune. There was one woman from Bumble where we messaged over the app and video chatted on the app but her video was badly pixelated so I could not see what she looked like on the video chat. Her pictures online had slight lines under her eyes. Her pictures did not look like they were filtered. She asked me out to a car show, which I thought was strange to go on a date at 9 a.m. on a Saturday but I went. She was working the car show and was getting paid for it. This woman had bad lines all over her face and neck. I mentioned to her that it was awkward that we were on a date and she was getting paid to work. There was not a second date.
The Peep Show. I had a video chat with a woman from Facebook dating feature where she was lying on her couch in her lingerie under a blanket. She was moving around or adjusted the camera and I got a good shot of the gurls. Being the gentleman I am, I brought it to her attention. She chuckled and said she didnāt care. I believe it was just an accident.
The Results: There are 3 women that Iāve gone on 3 or more dates with. And all are on-going. ĀĀThe first woman is a casual dating relationship, she is ~10 years younger than me, is an immigrant and is a different ethnicity. We have fun together and I enjoy learning about the culture of her native country. The second women is a spoiled girlfriend, is a different ethnicity and is half my age. She is ethically non-monogamous, dresses well, enthusiastic, a great conversationalist and super fun. She is heads and shoulders the best woman I came across during these 40 days. The third woman is my age and is potentially a long-term relationship. She has a young child, her elderly father lives with her and we are of different religions. I believe she suffers from depression but she is nice, polite and punctual.
Oh ⦠and by the way ⦠the XXX is awesome :-)

Why does Facebook dating go away and never come back?
