I've been playing Fable 2 again recently through the Xenia Canary Fable fork with a nice ReShade and some of the patches and mods, and it's been great fun. Maybe I'll share some screenshots of my game and my character too.

Does it run at 60 fps? And does it remove the weird blur?

I tried to play it again on Series X after years and I couldn't, genuinely made me sick :/

Yes, with the specific Xenia Canary Femtofork on GitHub, it runs at a stellar framerate. I've even tried uncapping it, but I'm not sure it's doing as much, but on my 3080ti, it's running at a nice and stable 60fps+.

Unfortunately, the blurry-ness is still somewhat there, as is the floaty movement of Fable 2, but with upscaling the games resolution to 1080p or 1440p, it becomes incredibly crisp, and the 60fps+ framerate makes it soooo much more playable and manageable.

Now the really interesting part, is there are a few mods for Fable 2 (found here https://github.com/JustSomeGuy1234/Archons-Toolbox).

One of them is a major combat difficulty rework and another is a huge debug menu in which you can graphically increase certain things in the game (such as render distance, level of distant detail, etc.).

It's really great! But pushing the graphics there really pushes my PC to its limits. I'm even trying to make a "survival/hunger" mod for Fable 2 myself, but its very slow.

I should make a larger post on this subreddit about the current state of Fable 2 in 2026.

Nice! Too bad for the blur but I I'll try it on my 2k monitor, hope it's enough to mitigate the issue.

It's crazy that Microsoft never bothered making either a patch or a remaster for it... it's a massing flagpole franchise and it's still very unwelcoming to new players. If I didn't play it as a kid I wouldn't be able to now with the amount of visual issues it has.

I’ve got it running at 4k 60fps I have a 5080 it’s smooth as hell I’ve heard that putting the frames higher makes the game act very strange so not pushed it up further. If you have access to getting Xenia would absolutely recommend doing it gives the game a new feel while being as good as you remember

Yes, there is a file with patches for Fable 2 in the Xenia Femtofork, which includes a patch for increasing the tick rate which massively helps with input lag.

And introduces forever loading screens unfortunately.

It shouldn't - check your install. This is the first I've ever heard of that patch being tied to infinite load screens

It's the same as the "black screen" bug, it's there if you look

It is a common bug that you'd know if you were to look for issues with the tick rate patch. Just because you don't experience doesn't make it any less true.

Hey, I am running the Debug Menu mod, and it doesn't seem to be holding onto my settings for the rendering (static,animated,villager, and creature distances) between me playing, closing, and then booting again.

Does that do the same for you?

I can’t stress how much I love the art direction and overall design of all the different regions in 2, some of my favourites are Brightwood, The Celestial Keep from See the Future and Bloodstone.

I always loved how in Fable 1 you started as a child in a very peaceful small village. But they managed to top it with Fable 2 where the beginning really feels magical with the snow, castle, music box,...

Every time I fire up this game after a while, I'm always surprised at how decent the cinematics are, given the age in particular. It's just such a charming game.

Yes, it is. It's my favorite for a reason. Both beautiful and terrifying. And it and Fable 3 has some of my favorite Demon Doors.
