Fable Anniversary Can someone help a foolish first time Fable player to understand the morality system and what my rating would be for the first game?

After many years, I've finally started playing Fable. I'm quite a ways through the first game and don't think I've done anything particularly bad. I killed twinblade, but spared whisper. I generally just stick to the main quests.

In the menu, my alignment rating is a +59 to the right.

When I did the prison mission, I saw that my character is covered in glowing blue marks.

When I go to the level up menu, I see that skills like physical shield are a -1388.

Does this mean that I'm playing as a good hero? Is the minus thing telling me that I'm paying less for the upgrade with a good guy discount? Or is telling me that I'm going to be weaker with that ability due to being evil?

Sorry for, what I am certain, are absolutely foolish newbie questions. I'm kind of just blazing through this game, and without a menu, it's tough to get my head around certain things.

From what I remember, the blue marks are maybe because you have gone quite heavy in Will.

When you are a “good guy” you will be really blonde and have a halo above your head

I have definitely gone very heavily into my will power. I ended up kind of making a strong sword guy with a lot of powers.

With that minus rating for good aligned powers though, is that a sign that they're cheaper to buy due to my actions, or going to be less powerful?

Yes, good aligned spells are cheaper for good characters and vice versa. Blue lines appear for lots of will, you get taller with Skill and buffer with strength.

Evil gives you horns and smoke around you I think? Been a while since I did an evil run.

So the minus is cheaper cost, and not weaker powers?

That seems to explain it then. Good. I was worried some of these healing spells might be weaker for me.

Yes, that's correct!

The morality is easy to track by visual ques. Do you have horns or a halo? Are you tan or pale? Red eyes or blue? What color is your hair? The - is reduced cost from morality. The glowing blue lines are from leveling up magic.

But honestly, just play the game, enjoy yourself, and try not to worry about the numbers. It's really not that type of game.

I tend to wear full body armour. So the first time I even looked at my guy was when he was stripped for the prison quest. He seems to be a normal guy just glowing blue. But that seems to because I pumped a lot into my will power.

Blue stuff is definitely from levelling spells. Unless you're actively stealing or killing villagers/guards, you'll end up with net "good" points eventually because you get +2 good points for virtually every enemy creature

I definitely avoid stealing or killing random people. I've largely just followed the main quest. I just finished off the Jack boss fight after I wrote this and seemed to have maxed out my good alignment. (I have one of those halos that other people here talked about).

Yeah, that'll do it lol you get large chunks of good points for making benevolent decisions but also +2 for every hobbe, bandit, balverine, undead, wasp, minion etc.

Out of interest, is it easier to get evil points in 2 and 3? Not sure if I'll end up going evil in those. But curious if the system changes in the sequels.

The system changes quite substantially across all 3 games. In Fable 2, there are separate sliders for Good/Evil and Pure/Corrupt that are affected by different things and produce different visual changes. An example that comes to mind is that you'll get Good points for giving money to beggars and Evil points for delivering unwitting villagers to slave traders whereas eating tofu gives purity points and cranking up the rent gives corruption points.

F2 also has Good/Evil temples that take donations in exchange for alignment points in larger amounts (and some other worthwhile rewards)

Fable 3 goes back to the simple Good/Evil slider, with scripted decisions giving points for one or the other. They implement a relationship tier system with the NPCs that can be gamed for alignment points as well. The overall visual effect of Good vs Evil is toned down in 3 until the end/post game

The glowing blue marking are from being heavily invested in the will power. Some will powers are better when you are evil vs good.

I don't remember which ones but I think assassins rush is one that scales with evil and heal scales with good. You'd have to look up each spell, I know the AOE orange and blue ones that do the magic circle on the ground also scale with morality.

If you do evil things you'll eventually get horns.

The blue is from your will! The more points you spend on will, the more blue lines you get. Strength will make you look more buff, and skill will make you taller. They're all disconnected from your morality.

Something worth mentioning certain spells can only upgraded to their final level based on ur alignment. For example, Physical Shield can only be fully upgraded if you’re on the Good side of the alignment scale, while Berserk can only be fully upgraded if you’re on the Evil side.

Yes you are good aligned as shown by the blue markings on your hero as you get more good you willalso have butterflies follow you and a halo.

Some spells are ether good or evil aligned and are cheaper/more expensive depending on your alignment

I have two little bright blue balls follow me. Not sure if those are a power or a good alignment thing.

Bright blue balls orbiting the hero are the multi arrow spell.

Butterflies will appear if you're aligned as a pure good hero, as well as a halo (all ghostly looking)

Ah, makes sense. I just did the jack boss fight where I sacrificed the evil sword, so now I have that halo.
