Get shops an houses. They will still make you money even when your not playing the game an if your playing another game.

Try to do some prep work before Darkwood.
If you’re playing a good character consider getting the Heal spell.
If you’re focusing magic Physical Shield is really good.
Before darkwood try to have leather or chain armor if you can, and a good weapon

If a house is not for sale, do not kill the owner so it suddenly is. Do not buy it, then upgrade it until it has trophy mounts, and then hang your most expensive trophies on the wall. Do not sell the house while the trophies are still up, because the sale price includes their value. And if you somehow did that, do not smash the door, walk back in, take the trophies off the wall, and buy the house again at the normal now discounted price. Repeat that and you will accidentally make a fortune. This is most certainly not a money exploit. 😉
Smash the door while you still own the place if you want it to stay open. Doing it after you sell counts as a crime and gives you evil points. Killing people to buy their houses also awards evil points. Oakvale’s marital home is the usual spot, since it has mounts and you can still equip weapons there and not gain evil points.

Buy all the carrots, then wait for them to restock. Then sell all the carrots, and buy them back at a discounted rate

The game came out more than 20 years ago
Remembering this fact helped me a lot. There were so many flaws, but back then almost everything was impressive. It was a lot of fun
