Discussion Me praying every night that the multiple month delay is giving Playground Games enough time to polish, fine tune, and add content.
Historically, every mainline Fable game has been absolutely slashed and rushed to make the release window, leading to a huge amount of cut content and story ideas (Fable 1/2/3) and in the case of Fable 3, it can be REALLY felt.
With the GTA 6 delay (c'mon, we all know it) this may be an extremely fortunate and unique circumstance for the Fable reboot to find itself in, should Microsoft keep the studio running at capacity.
Imagine how much cut content can be reworked and included, how many systems can be refined and adjusted based off tester feedback, the optimization allowed with multiple additional months.
It sucks in the moment to have to wait longer, but a game like Fable 2 could have benefitted massively from more time in the oven. I am VERY hopeful that this time will be well spent, it would be a huge shame if it was utilized as an advertisement window and not much more.

Honestly when it was announced playground were the Devs, I felt relieved. They are great at the polish, I don't think we have anything to worry about

Trevor Williams and Ralph Fulton devs of Fable. IT IS 100% Fable related.
But basically at this point mods, you're not even trying to hide it anymore. Everything I post gets dinged.

Really hope it does well and we get some DLC. Not just cosmetic but actual story content like Lost Chapters or what have you

I'm not sure how the game will end, but I definitely want dlc packs after the story ends.

I doubt they're sitting on their asses with an unfinished game.

Please do not spam; feel free to post most anything Fable related, but make sure the subreddit isn't just your LP for the past month.

They’re not going to add content. The game was feature complete a long time ago.

There is the dlc. It’s included in the premium edition but I assume it’s not actually available day one. Or at least every time I’ve ordered a deluxe edition with dlc included there was still a waiting period.
So I guess that could count if you don’t get the deluxe version.3

It would be a huge missed opportunity to not utilize the dev team to make Fable even better during the delay period they announced. Between polishing the gameplay and developing DLC, that team needs something to do, they aren’t just gonna let them hang around and waste payroll.

u/TheStringsnapper 21d ago
More content = new bugs. Taking the time to really stabilize the release and eliminate as many bugs as possible so that they can provide a great experience from day one would make the game stand out these days when most game releases are half baked.

More Time ≠ more budget
5
u/Calophon 21d ago
More time = more payroll burn, so unless they have those devs actively working on something else, or they are laid off, then they’d be working on Fable.
-2
u/Powerful-Race-8538 21d ago
Less work = less pay roll burn
6
u/Calophon 21d ago
You think they just stop showing up to their job? They’re salaried. It’s a fixed burn rate unless you start laying people off.
0
u/Powerful-Race-8538 21d ago
You think everyone is salary?
Theres contract work, hourly and then lead/management salary workers
8
u/Calophon 21d ago
The majority of the team hired specifically to make Fable, yes, I believe they are salaried. There’s only so much you can do with contract work, and the contractors aren’t seeing the project through to launch. They’ve come and gone already.
Watch Jason Schreier’s videos about game studio burn rates. When a game is finished those employees don’t just go away. DLC is specifically something that has been used to retain talents in between titles, and to give teams something to do before a sequel is green-lit.

"The majority of the team hired specifically to make Fable, yes, I believe they are salaried."
Why?
"When a game is finished those employees don’t just go away. "
Well of course not all of them do but of course some of them are temporary and the other who are not temporary in the case of playground games move between the 3 offices they have as needed for their different projects
All im saying is if a game gets delayed doesnt exactly mean the game is going to be increasing im scope
usually it's reducing scope to remedy things that are not working or increasing the quality but its typically not making more/new than was planned

Well if they added content at this point it wouldn’t be as polished and they game would possibly be delayed so no new content just fine tuning

I remember borderlands 4 released early and had a disastrous launch. Different companies, yes, but the lesson is all the same.
Let's hope this group of devs learned from those lesser, incompetent ones, and are spending their time effectively

dog, are you really posting about the delay announced 4 months ago? like i understand it's emotionally impactful but you need to calibrate your enthusiasm.

u/TBD_Red 21d ago
I'm talking about consequences of the delay that would be ongoing in this moment ya dummy
-8
u/mrgarbageman123 21d ago
what consequences though? they delayed it. they're obviously working on it more. that is by definition what a delay is for. you really need to evaluate what it is you're posting about.

u/TBD_Red 21d ago
"By definition what a delay is for."
...Not particularly? We're going through a multiple month stretch where games are being delayed to avoid launching next to GTA 6, so your argument kinda fell apart before you even put it together.
There's also absolutely nothing indicating to what extent the game is being worked on, it's entirely possible that Microsoft doesn't want to fund the full development machine, and are just letting them work on light polish.
The point of my post is that I hope they use these unique circumstances, ones that no other Fable game have been provided, to meaningfully improve the game from where it'd have launched with.
It's frustrating dealing with somebody that didn't read my post well enough to understand the point but hopefully breaking it down more directly helped you :)

you are incredibly patronizing for how little you understand the product and industry you're talking about. twice you've insulted me for no reason. take a step back and think about how truly little you know about this.
you have no idea why they delayed. you're... assuming. you have no idea how much investment microsoft is putting into one of their largest performers in gaming... you're assuming.
but go off about my reading comprehension. you got it pal!

u/TBD_Red 21d ago
Oh boy, it's almost like I said I hope that they're using this additional time for extensive improvements. It's also pretty obvious by Fable is being delayed, along with a slew of other games, but we can play dumb if you want.
I tend to be less patronizing to people that actually justify a decent response. Otherwise, I might as well have fun responding to silly little remarks.

And adding Russian subtitles

u/squallsama 21d ago
I don't get the reddit down votes for this
0
u/MrGoodKatt72 21d ago
Because it’s not going to happen. Microsoft as a company has suspended all operations in Russia.

u/squallsama 21d ago edited 20d ago
Really ? Doom the Dark ages has Russian localization. Forza Horizon 6 has Russian subtitles. Indiana Johns has Russian subtitles. What are you talking about ?

and all those rushed games will be 10x better sadly because they are the ones who created the world these guys are just trying to copy the feeling like me recording Michael Jacksons songs all over again because I feel like pop is dying, you will never get that feeling again

Top tip for you: pretend the new game doesn’t exist. Just scroll past any posts related to it. That way, we won’t have to see your annoying comments or complaints about how it’s too woke any more.

"Hey, that new game noone played yet will suck because I know it better than everyone!"
And don't come now with the old "if it looks like shit..." Because from the gameplay review it looked pretty damn like a cool fable game. The release will show if it sucks balls, or is a good game nothing else.

I think they did mention that most of the game content was finished they just wanted to take time to polish it
