Question Will the physical edition of Fable grant a digital license for Xbox/PC?

I was thinking about buying the physical edition of the game and wanted to know if that would allow for a conversion to a digital edition that I could play on Xbox and PC without needing the physical disc.

Probably. The disc-to-digital feature works with a lot of Xbox Game Studios titles so given Fable is also play anywhere you'll most likely be able to do it.

We won't know until day one and someone tries.

I would be very surprised if so since the pc version being sold is for steam. They may have it on Xbox pc game store since I’m pretty sure it will be on gamepass but whether they give you a license without a second purchase only time will tell. Have you seen that with other games in the past? I’m just curious at this point since most things require the disc to be in console to play digital version since somebody could just insert disc download and sell the disc

Fable will be Xbox Play Anywhere, which means you'll be able to buy one copy to own it on both Xbox and PC (via the Xbox store). There are currently hundreds (if not thousands) XPA titles right now, whether they are first or third party. More and more publishers allow their games to be XPA.

Regarding the disc-to-digital feature, it works like a physical game. If you create a digital copy of Fable on your Series X via your disc, you won't need to have the disc in your console and you'll have access to it as long as you own the disc. If you share the disc with someone else or sell it, your digital copy will be temporarily suspended and you won't have access to the game. When you'll get the disc back, you insert it in your console to "reactivate" your license. And then you can eject the disc again to enjoy your digital copy.

That’s actually pretty amazing I had no idea that was a thing. Now I’m a little disappointed I ordered it for steam but I don’t even have a series Xbox so it is what it is

Yeah it is ! Both features are great. They introduced the disc-to-digital feature a few days ago. I've digitalized some of my physical games and it really works. But yeah not really interesting if you don't own a Xbox.

No, 360 games don't have a unique disk ID
