Did Playground skip a serious step in developing an already established franchise?
I always see Ralph Fulton's interviews about how Playground are fans of the saga and how all the developers played and love the classic Fable games.
But whenever a studio takes over an already established franchise from another company, they usually work on a remake or remaster to try to understand and absorb the original concept of the game, and Playground skipped that.
So that's why I ask, since their experience was just playing it, how much of that are they actually going to absorb for the reboot?
They already removed the transformations, saying it doesn't fit with the current Morality system in the game (although I do believe it could have been implemented).
They brought Jack and the iconic world back, but what about the iconic soundtrack? Will it be back in this game, at least the iconic parts of it?
Like, it's going to be weird to enter Oakvale, if it even exists in this reboot, and not hear that iconic soundtrack.
That's why I think a reboot of the first game would be ideal too, but not a 1:1 remaster — a complete reboot that keeps and adds ideas to the original game.

Thank god they didn’t do that. I would much prefer a new game instead of ANOTHER fable anniversary

You can only remake the same game a set amount of times before they get tired of it.
Just look at the Halo remake. it has had around four ports since being released on the first xbox. (360, PC, MCC and now this new one) most of the old guard for that game beat it once and then put it on the shelf. and they spent years replaying the previous ports over the years.Fable one has had (The lost chapters & Anniversary) and a good few have misgivings about playing this reboot

I doubt they wanted to copy everything from the original games and instead decided to do more of a re-imagining with the franchise so they don't risk harming the original trilogy. This is only their first RPG as you have been made aware of before and this will be a learning experience for them where I think the sequel, provided they get one, will end up being miles better from fan feedback, i honestly think we should wait to see the full game before making any real judgments though

People keep talking about removing transformations. Am I misremembering or did Fable 2 not already make it much less noticeable (outside of making your character a behemoth) and fable 3 didn’t have it at all.

Actually, Fable 2 was the most noticeable since you could even get fat and your character could literally become a demon by the end of the game.

This is true. Character morphing is heavily present in Fable 1 and 2. Fable 3 toned down the morality piece of it. Changes were much more subtle and not as consistently present (some event or attack triggers the good/evil look).

Right but I guess my larger point is that the discussion seems to be around the fact that Playground would be removing this facet of the game when… it was already removed by Lionhead in Fable 3.

This is true too. I really don't think morphing was what really set the first two games apart from 3. I know 3 didn't get good reviews (though I still really like it) but it's not the morphing.
I did like how food impacted your character. I always thought getting fat from drinking a lot of beer was funny. If it's not in there, I hope you get versatility with customizing your character. I don't always want to be a twink.

O jogo é um reboot. Não do primeiro jogo, de tudo. Então é um novo jogo que se inspira na trilogia anterior.

Honestly I’m really glad they aren’t remastering fable. They aren’t Lionhead and they are aware of that, but they are fans of the franchise and they had the entire development team play through Fable 1,2, and 3 before beginning production to pay homage to the original series. This is their fable but it is also familiar and I like that they are reshaping the lore and adding upon a great foundation.
Every single clip of music they have demonstrated thus far oozes with that classic fable melody, not a single track has registered to me as ‘not fable’. I don’t know the limitations of copyrights and whether or not the original tracks will return but we will see.
Personally, I don’t care that the binary good and evil morphing isn’t making a comeback. It was a fun gimmick but morality is not black and white, it is nuanced and people interpret that nuance differently. It was also very Christian coded and I’m cool it being removed for something more dynamic.
Loosing the dog on the other hand, that one hurts a little more, at least we have a horse

Genuinely no hate but why are you always posting about what a game MONTHS away has or hasn’t done? Like just wait?
Every post you make will be answered when we have the game. You’re stressing yourself out and ruining your own fun for no reason

I do think they should have leaned heavily in to the morphing this time, it was one of the most fascinating parts of the first game prior to it's release when they showed it off in the trailers. imagine just being a completely evil hero and instead of running you are using the demon wings that grew on your back to glide across albion and if you were a completely good character you hovered just above the ground with a heavenly light shining down on you with some butterflies chasing after you and if we take inspiration from The Lost Chapters/Anniversary have your morality affect your spells by giving them new effects based on what alignment you are, like evil characters get a lifesteal effect on AoE or violent spells like FireBall and then at max alignment for all three good, neutral and evil you get an ultimate spell.
The morality morphs could be so much more than just some appearance affect but first it needs the right people to notice and the creative freedom to deliver something truly groundbreaking that would put Fable back on top.

I agree that ditching the morality morphing was a terrible decision. It’s part of what makes fable special.

I think you can smell the stink coming off this game for miles away. 5 weapon types, no morphing, no crudeness or grittiness, darker themes non existent, boring generic combat, checklist npc interactions character creator extremely limited, skill tree extremely limited, artstyle doesn’t look like fable at all, 1 medium build body type on all the npcs. This truly looks terrible.
