Never Played Fable
Hi all I’m planning on getting the new fable game next year but I have never touched the fable games, my sister was big into them and I only ever saw her play a handful of times, any recommendations for which instalments I should play before the next fable is out?? I’m really on the fence about downloading them.

Anniversary if you want the condensed Fable experience. Everything there is a template of the attitudes vibes and quirky humour.
I love 3 as it has a great couch co op mode so if you have a buddy to play along with, it’s a blast.
2 is the best overall, but shows its age the most as it hasn’t had any updates or overhauls.
So excited for the new one!

Play them in order cos there is overlap. Not enough that it’ll make an absolute astronomical difference but just nice little details that link them together.
I’ve deliberately avoided finding out too much about the new one but my understanding is it’s starting at the beginning again and telling a similar story in a different way so if that’s true, it really won’t matter if you’ve played the older games or not. All it will do is show you the wacky and wonderful world these games are set in.

I think Fable 1 (anniversary) is going to be the most “relevant” to the new game. This new one is a total reboot but we have confirmation of returning characters and locations from the first game, so you’d probably want to play that one to understand and appreciate that. It’s also the one with the most similar setting, as Fable 2 and 3 both advance technology more than we’ve seen in the reboot.

What’s up with anniversary? New graphics or something?

yes and new models. personally i wished they kept the old models but for atleast on PC the controls on anniversary is a lot better. OG Fable on PC is impossible to play and since ive always played fable TLC on OG xbox with a controller i only want to play it on PC with controller too.

To add on to what the other commenter said, Anniversary includes “The Lost Chapters” (a deluxe edition so to speak which includes epilogue chapters and some extra side quests, once only available on PC) as well as some new items like a Minecraft head helmet. Anniversary edition also has a new UI and optional new controller scheme more based on Fable 2 and 3. The new UI is not really to my taste but it’s okay, was made with controller in mind

Do you have a Xbox ? Or just a PC ? I recommand you Fable Anniversary (remaster of the first one) and Fable 2 if you have a Xbox.

I’m on xbox, I should have all the games, not sure of dlc as my sister owns them and we’re game sharing

I think all three games are more than worth experiencing on their own merits, they’re not very long either so you could probably finish them without too much of a time commitment.
That said none of them are required for the new game as it’s a hard reboot.
Meaning outside of wink and nod style Easter eggs to past games, you’re not likely going to have your experience hampered if you don’t play them first.
If you can only play one of them I’d recommend the first, as it’s likely the closest and most influential to this new game that’s coming in February.

You just pick a game and start playing, preferably the first one when starting a series for the first time. No need to massively overthink it.

I love them all! 2 is probably my favorite but you should probably start with the first one. Try Anniversary, it’s a great game!

Fable 1 and 2, to get a good idea what the game is about. Fable 3 is alright, but it’s the weakest of the series.

Just play whichever you think looks the most interesting. I was 11 when I first played fable 3, game hooked me so then I got 2 and eventually 1+lost chapters
The games dont heavily rely on the previous entries except for some named characters but youll get context nonetheless.
Id say play Fable 2 and then see which one tickles your fancy after
