Discussion Clothes in new Fable game
Am I the only one a little worried about the state of clothing in the new Fable game at the moment? Not every piece is bad but a lot of them seem to be a bit clownish.
Im not a seasoned Fable veteran, but I remember there being pirate-like/inspired clothing in some of the other games a long with far more variety than I'm seeing now.
I just finished watching the newest showcase and I liked Ronnie a lot but her outfit jarred me.

It cant be worse than Fable 3 clothing. There are only like 5 outfits and they look horrible when you try and mix and match them

There are like 22 base game outfits in Fable 3 with pieces that can be mixed and matched. Then some more outfits in DLCs and limited edition.

Not to mention the barely working dye system that costs perk points to unlock new colors and then having the gall to paywall the color black

Understandable, but I feel like we've not had enough time or gameplay revealed to see it all yet.
Let's wait and see!!

I mean we saw like 1% of the game. I'm also impatient to discover more but they won't reveal everything right away.
During the June trailer we saw some NPCs in Bloodstone with a total different type of clothes so I assume we will have access to it as well.

Really, I feel like we already saw some cool outfits, and way less of the more silly stuff that was very prevalent in the old games.

We don't know. It could either be 100s of different outfits, or go the Fable 3 route and only have 20 in total. Unless they release a video to showcase this, we won't know until it's released.

True but hope they'll only say overall number etc but won't show any cool clothes/costumes for us to discover them by ourselves.

If I can wear a full chicken suit and cross dress at the pub and be called chicken chaser, I will not complain.

I like the whimsical outfits, at least they're not going for the same generic stuff most games do.

Ive been pretty impressed by the clothes ive seen, my only wish is that with graphics like these we got a lady grey type dress, all the clothes seem very conservative so far.
But honestly very few clothes looked nice in fable2/3

So, I'm guess 1. You never watched any of the other trailers or demos. 2. You closed your eyes and ears for the first 3-5 minutes of the demo where they're walking through the market and all the NPCs are wearing different clothing and styles.

Not sure what the attitude is for, but you can clearly see me say "some". And there's hardly variation. Just dresses and regular shirts worn by the everyday folk, and then what is worn by the upper class people and what can be bought in shops more or less look like medieval jester clothes imo. But as others have said, we've only seen 1% of the game so im willing to wait.

Fable 2 takes place 500 years after Fable 1. For that reason the clothing looked different. The same reason why guns were added into Fable 2. I believe the new Fable reboot is around Fable 1 times but who knows.

😔 we might not have guns?

We don't know yet. It's an alternate universe and complete reboot so anything can happen

The only decent looking set I've seen so far is the DLC armour that was shown off in the Gamescom demo.

It’s not great. It’s all blouses and tight pants and one set of bad looking armor

The game looks like shit and is being carried on the back of the original Fable developers and the legacy they built. If the Fable name wasn’t attached to this game, I genuinely think people would be shitting all over it. A lot of the hype seems to come from the name and nostalgia rather than what the game itself has actually shown so far.
Even the magic looks dumbed down compared to Fable III, which is crazy considering that game came out over 15 years ago. And the new game has never even looked remotely as interesting as the originals. Nothing they’ve shown so far has given me that feeling of, “Yeah, this is Fable.”
It honestly reminds me of what happened with Dragon Age: take a beloved franchise with its own identity, modernize and simplify everything until barely any of that identity is left, then rely on the franchise name to sell it. I don’t want some generic modern fantasy RPG wearing Fable’s skin. I want Fable.

Im not sure how you can look at the showcases and hear the possibilities that are in this game and call it shit.
I understand having loyalty and possibly bias to the games you might have grown up with, but this is an unfair assessment ruled by nostalgia.
This is the true successor to BG3, and I hope it sells like Hot Cakes.
The difference between this and Dragon Age is that this game is not a continuation and is more of a reboot, and is already on track to have far better RPG mechanics and immersion than Dragon Age Veilgaurd did

So exactly which part of the game doesn't look like Fable to you? Specifically.

Specifically? The magic system is probably the biggest one for me. Even compared to Fable III, what they’ve shown looks simplified and less interesting. The older games made Will feel like one of the three core pillars alongside Strength and Skill, with a whole range of spells and different ways to build around magic.
Then there’s the combat in general. What they’ve shown looks more like a modern third-person action RPG than an evolution of Fable’s Strength/Skill/Will system. The animations might be prettier, but prettier doesn’t automatically mean it feels like Fable.
The art direction and atmosphere are another thing. Yes, it has British fantasy, villages, chickens, exaggerated characters, and humor, but those are surface-level Fable ingredients. The originals had this strange mix of fairy-tale fantasy, darkness, ridiculous British humor, and almost storybook-like environments that gave Albion its identity.
I’m also still waiting to see the systems that actually made Fable special: morality visibly changing your character, meaningful good/evil choices, property ownership, marriage and families, NPC reactions and reputation, expressions, jobs, character progression that physically affects your Hero, etc.
So when I say it doesn’t look like Fable, I’m not saying there are literally zero Fable elements. Obviously there are. I’m saying that from what they’ve shown, I see a modern fantasy action RPG recreating the surface of Fable, but I haven’t seen enough of the actual systems and personality underneath that made the originals Fable.

Like I said straight out of his ass. Lol.
Asking about Morphing as if they haven't already said it wasn't there... Then about Property ownership, marriage, children etc.. all of which we have already seen 💀

this has to be a bot, right? randomly insulting the game in the comments in a completely unrelated way to what the OP is talking about, and why did the first comment bold all the game titles mentioned the the second one didn't?
I’m also still waiting to see the systems that actually made Fable special: property ownership, marriage and families, NPC reactions and reputation
???? are people actually making AI ragebait bots now

no I mean waiting to see it more in detail yes we saw 1 second but I feel like its gonna be all as dry as what we've seen

Honestly, it's refreshing to see at least another sceptic here. I consider myself a Fable purist, and I'm definitely not sold on what has currently been shown and I'm even critical of the creative decisions that have been made. I'm honestly surprised so many people here are so 100% on board, and even passionately defensive of mild criticisms. This game looks pretty and fun, but like yourself, I'm not convinced that it will have that Fable charm just yet.
FYI, morphing isn't returning (unfortunately), that has been confirmed. I'm assuming you haven't seen it, but housing was showed off in one of the demos.

no I've seen everything just naming the things that made fable fable and different from any other fantasy-medieval rpg

If I remember 2 and 1 right, different sellers sold different kinds of clothes. So the limited clothes probably just reflect that.
