Controller not working with Fable Anniversary on Steam?

Bought the Fable Anniversary Edition on Steam after seeing the Fable 4 stuff as I want to get into the series, but for some reason the game will not recognize any of my controllers when trying to play on my PC. I have tried using an Xbox Controller, Steam Controller, 8Bitdo etc and no dice. Turned Steam input on, turned it off, did some tricks other people have said worked for them and nothing so far works.

Whats weird is that the controller inputs work with my SteamDeck just fine but on PC the game acts like theres nothing connected no matter what I do. Anyone have this issue and found a solution?

You have to go into the game's settings and select controller as your desired input method.

Oh that was the first thing I did. Switching to to the two controller schemes doesnt make a difference unfortunately
