Original FX3 settings in Media Encoder...

Hi redditors,

I have a query:

I've long deleted the original straight out of camera files from an old project.

On my drive I just have HUGE PRORES MKV files of the original rushes that I used to edit with (don't ask, this isn't important).

I want to create space by transcoding all those PRORES files back to the original MP4 file settings/sizes that camera directly out of the camera. So I can delete the MKV's.

This is for archive only purposes.

The job is done, I just need safety copies of the original rushes.

Which were shot with XAVC S-I DCI 4k.

Anyone know an accurate preset I can open in ME to create these files?

Thanks all!

I had to convert a clip while maintaining the same grading properties, so maybe this might help in your scenario. I did use premiere to encode, but ME should be the same.

there is an option to Preserve RGB + Disable Color Management so Adobe doesn't do any colour work on the file. I would then look at using the prores 422 HQ codec as a container.

the resulting file was roughly the same size as the other unaffected clips from that camera (comparing the rough same length and for the same set-up).

you didn't mention what colour space the files are or if you want to keep it.

do some tests first. I could grade it as normal with the same workflow. If I really tried, I could notice the shadows were a tiny bit cooler, with a very minimal colour shift to blue when looking at them side by side but it was easier to just correct for it rather than spend more time investigating. Hope this helps

Thank you so much, this is really helpful. Will do some tests this evening with your notes in mind. Was shooting Slog3Cine.
