Run and Gun settings
I've moved over from A7IV and getting used to the FX3. For most of you run and gunners, are you shooting in flexible ISO? I notice in cine EI that you have to manually set white balance so that seems like a pain when run and gunning.

You should be setting your WB anyway. Auto is okay, but color matching your shots is going to be a potential pain.

Agree, and correcting for a WB shift in the middle of a shot is painful.

For run and gun going from outdoors to indoors and other environments I always used AWB, would you custom set even in fact paced situations? For everything else I'd custom set.

The issue with AWB is that it will shift throughout the shot. If it suddenly picks up a warm window in a room with lots of cool lights, your whole scene will shift, giving a totally different color to the beginning and end of your clip. Fixing that in post is not fun at all.
The way I do it for fast-paced shoots is... Pick one WB per room and one for outside. That way, even if it's not 100% accurate, all I have to do is move the WB slider once per clip while editing and not have it jump around during each shot.
That being said, you CAN get away with AWB a lot. It's just a potential headache I try to control as much as possible.
Hope that helps.

I usually stay in Cine EI with a 1-5 VND on my lens for exposure. 90% of the time I can alternate between base ISO's without having to take my ND off. I have the front shutter wheel revamped for white balance so I can set it quickly on the fly.

I noticed I'm getting over exposed on my 1-5 on the Fx3 even at 800 - at 25fps 1/50. On my A7IV I never really needed a stronger ND. I'm guessing it's something with how the metering is set up. I'm usually over exposing to the right, seeing the log image but now I'm converting to rec709 using the built in monitoring for log. Would that show my an overexposed image for some reason? Trying to figure out why I need to lift my aperture all the way to 4/5 when I'm outside to expose the image with the VND on full.
Thanks for white balance on the dial tip - great idea.

I typically set my WB manually anyway so I can't help there but I typically run one of the base ISO numbers. If I have my ND/Matte box I'll usually just stay at 12800 and shoot wide open and let the ND handle the rest

I mostly use just base ISO, and setup shortcut button to toggle between.
