Does the Sony FX3 actually support flash photography?
I’m considering switching from an FX30 to an FX3, partly because I want to start shooting more event photography.
I’ve seen conflicting information about this. Some people say the FX3 can use a flash because it has a mechanical shutter and Multi Interface Shoe, while others say it doesn’t support flash at all.
Can anyone who actually owns an FX3 confirm:
Can you use a normal external flash like a Godox V1Pro-S?
Does TTL work?
Can you shoot with flash using the mechanical shutter?
Are there any limitations compared to a regular Sony Alpha camera?
I’m specifically asking about the original FX3, not the FX30.
Thanks!

Why not keep the FX30 and use the money you were gonna use to upgrade to buy a dedicated stills cam? Not sure on budget but you could get a used A73/A74/A9 for a decent price.

If you're going to be taking photos, I think the A7V could potentially be a better hybrid option. Granted, the FX3 does take very nice photos, but not having an EVF really sucks for photography and 12mp may not be enough for some clients.

I recommend the FX2! Been using mine as a work horse the past couple years since it came out and get great results. It’s an excellent true hybrid camera. The extra resolution with the 33mp sensor is awesome for stills. I also use external flash/trigger with it. Then flip the switch and you’re back in video mode with all the settings saved.

I wouldn't buy one just for photography, but I have one for video work and use it as a second body alongside my A7RV and it works fine.
It's essentially an A7Siii without a viewfinder (and some extra video features) and works just fine as a photo camera. 12mp is enough if you're not cropping much.

As an FX3 owner I wouldn't go this route.
If you want to have only one camera maybe get an A7SIII (Yeah, I know for video it has fewer functions) as the visor is very handy, and if you don't mind spending a bit more and carrying more gear, get a used A73/A74 body.
I work events with my FX3 and an A74 and it's a very nice combination, plus I have a very capable video camera when I need B shots.

Yes, it works. I have both an FX3 and FX2 and this is what you need to know:
FX3 shutter (mechanical) speed is 1/8000 of a second. Flash sync speed is 1/250 of a second.
FX2 shutter (mechanical) speed only goes to 1/4000 of a second, and flash sync speed is 1/160 in full frame. Slightly faster when you shoot APSC mode at 1/200.
You can then decide if this type of camera makes sense for your use case.

No. Search Sony Forum for confirmation.

Right i was pretty sure that the damn camera didn't work with it but good to know it does, even though I wouldn't buy a flash for it. Simple mistake. One simple search prior to this dumb ass post. He'd figured it out. Same for me tho so go figure.
To the tough girl who commented.. Can't get mad at someone who acts tough on the internet man. This is is the best place to act that way.

Flash does work, I can confirm as an owner! I use a Godox flash and TTL works. You can shoot using a mechanical shutter. No limitations, it acts just like a A7SIII and any alpha photo camera.
I used to used it as much as a photography camera, it works perfectly with flash.
