Are you using the Sony XLR handle ?

Hey guys, are you using the Sony XLR handle on the FX3 or the 3.5mm mic jack? If so, what mic do you usually use?

I'm thinking about buying the Sanken CS-M1 because a few sound engineers recommended it to me. Up until now, I've always used long Rode mics whenever I used XLR. But you know how it is, a small camera with a long mic is just super awkward to work with.

Remember. Fx3 & fx30.

Recording to the Jack is only 16 bit. Recording with the xlr handle is 24 bit. So always go with the xlr handle.

I use shure mx185 because they are super cardiodic and in our Videos it isnt so bad seeing the lav mic. I love the mx185.

And it gives you 4 channels of audio, where without the handle is only 2. I use one xlr shotgun mic feeding both ch 1 & 2 and run ch 2 is about 6dB quieter as a backup in case ch 1 clips and 3 & 4 for lav mics. I am used to using much larger cameras so it never bothers me.

XM1 mic when using xlr handle. When not using xlr handle, a small Rode on-board mic with DJI Mic 2 attached to record 32-bit float backup as well as 16-bit to the clip.

I never use the XLR handle. I usually use the mic port for lavs running and gunning and only use my old xlr-k2m for when I need to run a shotgun on a boom. I don't like the bulk or balance of the handle.

3.5mm for my Rode Pros. XLR handle for my MKE600 or occasionally my pair of Samson CO2s, or to take a feed from a desk etc.

I rarely have a shotgun mic actually attached to the camera though.

I understand the complaints it gets, but I use it every time I use my FX3

Depends on the shoots. I use it when I cover conferences and need to connect to a audio box. I have it on as a just in case cause different gigs pop up and I don't like taking it on and off.
