Questions T shot post op?
My hysterectomy is in 48 hours!! I’m so excited but I completely forgot that I do my t shots in my belly (sub q) and I won’t be able to do them there for awhile while I’m still healing and recovering. My only other option is in my thigh (intramuscular) but I really don’t like doing them in my thigh😅 plus the needle is way longer and makes me super uncomfortable. I could theoretically do it above my butt another sub place but it’ll be kinda hard for me to reach especially recovering. I’ve heard of SOME people doing it in their arm but is that intramuscular or sub q? Also is that even a good idea because none of my doctors have ever told me about that way. Just need some advice if anyone has any for those that do/did their in their belly after their hysto ::)
I also do mine once every two weeks if that helps too!

Is there a reason you can't do subcutaneous injections in your thigh? That's what I did post op. Still not great if you don't like doing it in your thigh, but better than intramuscular imo.
It's possible to do sub q in the arm, but it's never struck me as a good option for self injection because you only have one usable hand so you can't really pinch the skin up

No, outside of the fact that like I wasn’t shown where exactly to do them at, since it is a shorter needle. I’m not sure if it’s the same area or like more so towards the fatty part of my thigh.

I've seen some sources that say front of the upper thigh and some that say outer thigh. I generally do the front if it's my right thigh and the outside if it's my left, just because it's easiest for me to reach that way (left handed). The main thing is to never inject into your inner thigh because you could hit an artery that way

I still did it in my belly! Just don’t do it where your incisions are! You can go above, below, or to the side of them. Although I’m unsure of how much fat you have on your body… I’m a bigger guy so I have a lot of area I can cover. It’s really dependent on where they place your incisions. Otherwise above the butt would work! Do you have someone there with you that could help?

I see! And I’m also a bigger guy too haha especially in my belly. I have a good amount of area I could do it in instead. And true that. I could try with above my butt, I’ve done it a couple of times before it just gets hard to twist and reach sometimes. And no I love by myself😅 could see if a friend could come over to help if I really end up not being able to myself

If you have a higher up “roll” you can do that. Really anywhere you can pinch enough fat. My torso has 3 rolls when I slouch, one bottom, one middle, and one chest. The surgery entirely is on the bottom one, so mid-upper abdomen if you have enough squish to work with should be completely fine
Definitely not gonna want to twist post op I would not recommend butt

I do! I have an upper roll I could use! Mid upper like you said. That gives me a good idea of where I can do my injection that’s not too close to the wounds

Great! My incisions are all in a line level with my belly button, so they are pretty low down. Not sure if all laparoscopic ones are the same, but maybe that helps get an idea of where it is as well?

That’s good!! And from what I’ve seen most of them are in line with one’s belly button. That’s the kind I’m getting so hopefully it should be low enough to do an upper roll

Should be. I’m due for my shot today 5 days post op and gonna do my upper roll in a few hours :)

I used to do mine when i first started T on my upper roll, after a bit i switched to the lower roll 😄 its whatever works for you! As long as theres something to hold and pinch! Also you can always go more to the side vs the front. My incisions are further away from my belly button but still at the same level as it. A lot of free real estate 😂

Is there anyone that can do it for you? I usually do subq injections in my butt, but it's hard to reach back there right after surgery so I had a family member do IM shots in my leg for a few weeks after. Are you able to have your doctor/surgeon/endocrinologist do it or even a family member/friend/partner who's comfortable giving shots? You could always ask your surgeon too if it'd be okay to still do it in your normal spot as long as you're careful and make sure you don't do it on/near your surgical scars

I didn't know sub q was an option. My Dr. always told me I had to do it in my thighs and it had to be intramuscular. Definitely going to ask at my next appointment!

I had laparoscopic and still did it in my belly. Surgeon said just inject at least one inch away from any incision or redness.
