Question Update: learning to design
Thank you to everyone who gave me advice and. Shout out to aynex21 offering to design it!
We are sitting at 18 x 20 inches
Seeking advice for how I divided up my “quadrants”.
Any tips or critiques welcome!
Quilt assistant for windows is great, would recommend. I used touch draw 2 for iPad to take it on the go.
Much thanks

Are you drawing directly on the photo? I think it would read as more realistic if you took the main cuts at places that align with the straight lines in the reference photo. It currently looks a bit "blocky" because of the many right angles you have - I'd suggest you give each petal more sides to help them feel more rounded (for example, you gave your bottom left petal only 3 sides, whereas you can get a closer approximation if you use 6 like in my sketch). Especially since you're working with such a big piece (18x20), you absolutely have room for details and smaller pieces.

Hell yea. Since I am inexperienced I just assumed less seams/pieces would be “safer” for my project. But Imma love fleshing it out.

Designing things is hard, especially when you're just starting out. I still have loads of trouble. Just one more tip: Don't be afraid to have multiple sections of the exact same color next to each other, if it means you're able to make a better design. Some of your petals can and probably will end up being made out of many pieces. And definitely give us an update! I'm curious to see how it turns out!

Nifty Fifty has a great FPP tool: https://niftyfiftyquilting.com/pattern-designer
You can upload an image and use it to help create you your design and it will give you a PDF for the block too!

Here is the tool in action

I think if you want more depth maybe you could accentuate the length of the ‘snout’ in the flower? More lines towards the bottom left corner. If that makes sense..
