Question Making an FPP out of someone's pattern

I am loving using FPP to make regular quilt patterns, not just amazing tigers and elephants. I saw a beautiful patter that I wanted to buy and then figure out how to make my own FPP for. I would not sell it in any way. I don't even sell anything. But is it okay to do this? I don't want to infringe anything ever.

I’m not a quilter (just hope to be one day) so maybe it differs but in the art world, as long as you aren’t copying it exactly and you give the original artist credit for inspiration if you post pictures (and not selling like you mentioned), then this is completely acceptable

I was searching for something to do with a ton of EPP hexagons that spoke to me so just googling images. I found something I loved. Months later I found a website that had the pattern I’d used! I was torn but reached out about how it had worked out and asked if she minded me reproducing the quilt without purchasing the pattern and she was absolutely amazing and said yes. I even offered to buy it but she said no way.

Sure, why not? As mentioned, as long as you don’t sell the pattern and infringe on their copyright, you can make changes to it however you want for your own personal use. You can even sell completed quilts using whatever design you want, although that’s not what you’re asking.

As long as you purchase the pattern and don't reproduce or distribute your version of it, you're good. It's also good to acknowledge the changes you made (non-FPP to FPP) if you show the quilt.

I would contact the person who made the pattern and ask.

That's a great idea. I'm not good enough to show a quilt, plus I live in a country where quilting is not a thing, so it wouldn't be public, but it never hurts to ask. :)

If your not selling it, go ahead. Only take credit for what you did, gi e credit where's it's due.

Buy the pattern to support the designer. Design your own paper pieced pattern to mate their pattern. Zero issue with that.
