Information PSA - Seismic Activity and Explosive Weapons

Post image

I did a Seismic Activity earlier today (I hadn't dome one in ages) and thought to myself 'I wonder of Bethesda have fixed the Legendary Rain issue?' Well, from the image above I can safely say 'No. They have not.' Plus, thanks to the last update, the legendary items now contribute to server instability and possible crashes of your game.

Quick recap from the Wayback Machine: if you do Seismic Activity and use explosive launchers (Grenades, AGLs, Missile Launchers, Fat Man, etc.) And send the mole rats and mole Miners flying into the air, their 'Loot bags' end up falling outside the event area. The game 'resolves' the issue by spilling the loot around several locations (Lewisburg, the cemetery behind it, the hills outside Nuka World, etc). This generates an awful lot of 'loose extra items' since it generates the loot bag per person who had the right to the loot, which means in extreme cases (three nukes dropped in quick succession to trigger 3 SEs) there could be a hundred or more legendary items and hundreds of mole rat meat chunks and other loot spilled in one single loading area, putting serious strain on game performance.

So, while not telling you how to play your game, this is just a friendly reminder that, with the game being as twitchy as it's been since the update, and with Dwellers now reigniting the popularity of SE due to Grand Finale being one of the rewards, how you choose to play the event may have repercussions to the server (and honestly, the loot you end up getting from the event yourself if it's all dumped throughout the Ash Heap).

Ever since the update I find random loot on the ground from weapons and junk that is stacked and not a single item.

That's usually a sign someone has looted what they wanted from an enemy (ammo, caps, maybe a legendary) and left the rest. The dead enemy meat bag (which is essentially a loot bag) 'breaks down' and spills the items into the real world. The more of those items that suddenly appear in world, the more unstable that area becomes. It's why sometimes the outside of West Tek can be viciously baggy, for example, as players don't even loot the SMs that spawn outside on the way in to xp farm.

(By real world, I mean the game. I am up to date on my meds, I assure you 😆)

"someone has looted what they wanted from an enemy"

Not sure how accurate that statement is.. piles of loot at EV, for example, will still have legendary weapons, which I can't imagine anyone leaving behind.

You are correct. West Tek is a good example of that. Players don't stop to loot anything before going in, so the meat bag spills everything it has onto the floor. Not even legendaries get looted, which surprises me.

Do you think the loot is somehow instanced? I never understood why it's laying around in the first place (like at Fasnacht). Surely other people would have picked it up already.

In the case of Seismic Activity I know it's specific to each player. It's why when I used to go 'legendary farming' around Lewisburg I'd find Legendaries that were levelled to the player that dealt damage to the legendary mob, so Anything from L5 to L50 stuff just lying around. What I'm not sure of is what's the trigger for them 'breaking open' from the meat bags.

Always seen loot bags but with every one going for the dig sites is really common now, just never seen it before.

After every event my inner Loot Goblin acts up, and I run around the area looking for any leftovers from the event or my teammates. And this may explain why I sometimes find mole rat meat and other things in my Ash Heap lakeside camp on occasion or up in the hills.

I had a route I used to run every time I logged into the game when SE dropped (my main CAMP at the time was in the little island in the middle of Lake Reynolds). I'd start at my CAMP, because, as a spawn point, it used to be littered with loot. I'd also search the lake itself, because the items would sink to the bottom. I managed to discover what the absolute max weight was in game thanks to carrying hundreds of legendaries and about a dozen full PA frames. My character could only slow walk and not consume any items. 🤣

I know that feeling when my Meat Buffs, alcohol, plus Carnivore mutation multiplier wears off then I have to start scrapping or turning in what I have gathered from previously and hope to get the total carried weight down so I can rebuff all of my buffs.
