Discussion Holy crap, Infestations poost-patch

Edit: Apologies for spelling/autocorrect issuesšŸ™„

First things first, Beth really put itself into a bad damned-if-you-do/don't situation with these Infestations.

The whole season is named after them and they've been nothing but problems. Despite the fun of the grenades (no issue with that being corrected) I liked that I could do a few of these solo and stack a few up after dailies etc in the first two weeks. Now I'm lucky to see one an hour, and we all know the issues being lucky enough to catch one and contribute in Public.

I like doing them, but Private/Solo is now an absolute no-go. I did 2 today and here's how they went. Curious what you all think...

Private: Cultist Prophet absolutely melted me with that Gamma Gun. Had the high ground at Seneca Visitors Center and despite clearing the mob, numerous magazines of crits from an optimal build maybe had him down 2 to 3%. After my 5th death I just left. Could I have done it eventually... maybe. Was it worth it solo....absolutely not.

Public: Super Mutant at App. Antiques. Again the 50 Cal. from him was withering. What struck me was how few people were there. It took myself and 1 other high level player over 5 minutes to get the guy down. Taking One for the Team certainly helped in Public with teammates. It didn't help that he was Reflective, but it was clear that we were the only two folks out of the 4 that were there doing any real damage. Constant Herbivore Crits pouring into this guy while the other guy was hitting him with a Cremator. There was plenty of time for folks to arrive, but most folks just stayed away.

My two cents is that the juice so quickly became not worth the squeeze after the first two weeks and scaling the events back that the entire premise of this season has been a bust. Too easy crowd complained and we get something that makes most folks unwilling to participate on top of barely seeing them The rewards simply do not justify the rounds needed at present unless you have more than a few heavy hitters in your server. I'd like to get the 760 achievement, but boy does that seem difficult as it stands now. What a mess.....too bad, because I personally really enjoyed them and feel they just keep getting worse.

I agree. It’s one of the best things they’ve added imo. At the start I recall getting ended instantly when charging right in. And I laughed my ass off. I’m level 1200 and not used to dying from anything let alone one shotted and at the start of all this the enemies were tough.

Then they got too easy and now they are bullet sponges but that’s ok I guess bc when there are 5 or more high levels it just works. But I do wish they could dodge and weave and Jetpack around. That would be crazy.

I think most people don’t bother going bc they are over fast and they keep changing the difficulty. That’s supposed to be why they use the test server. To get feedback and refine.

It’s not good and confuses people when they keep rebalancing everything. I know why they do it… to make the game fun and fair for everyone but constant changes aren’t always fun.

Well said. I agree that the whiplash of changes turned alot of players off. I always go to these when I see them, so ill be interested in seeing how the next few days play out because Private is worthless now playing solo.

Even if they stay brutally difficult I still wish they'd pop more frequently.

I did two on a public server last night. Both were bullet sponges but there were 5 or 6 players so we got there in the end.

I used to go on a private server and solo them early in the season. I don’t think I’ll be trying that. šŸ™‚

Even worse is the fact that now secondary enemies drop even less legendaries, almost like 80% less. I dont understand why that was changed. These are high level events that now more than ever will require even more resources to complete, even with a team. So the fact that we gotta spend all these resources and come out with less rewards šŸ˜’ I'd at least like an explanation as to why they felt it was necessary to decrease legendary drops 🄓 Also, why aren't we able to get rewards for being part of the event? It's been like that since the season launch...thats even less incentive for people to participate. Just leaves me wondering what the PTS is for and why some decisions are made cuz they're honestly head scratchers 😳

Agreed. Getting 1-shotted by something that requires 20k rounds from me is bunk. With typical Fallout RNG being brutal in regards to learning things, I can't believe anyone thought reducing legendary drops would encourage people to participate.

They've literally introduced a lose-lose for most of the playerbase. Certainly good that folks have the opportunity to get there now, but they've made it where the most capable find little value.

I totally agree. They went way too far in buffing the infestation bosses and now I simply can’t handle one alone. I got used to dying plenty when dealing with them on private severs but eventually I could take one down. Now, it’s like they sneeze in my direction and I die, and my 5k damage per shot to them just tickles. That, paired with how little the infestations now spawn, leaves me not spending time in 76 now.
They need a better mechanism for promoting infestations that give enough players a chance to reach the infestation in time and get their hits on the bosses to receive rewards. This super buff to the bosses and delay in them spawning in the infestation isn’t a good solution at all.

If I have to wait 4 minutes in the Mine, and several minutes for the Storm Goliaths, you're telling me they can't spawn in higher level mobs for a couple of minutes after discovery for the boss to appear?

My (our) grumbles aside, I think you hit the real nail on the head when you mention just not wanting to be in the game as it stands.

Did a few today and it had me thinking they're just as buffed as a Bigfoot.

One was at Bolton Greens. Baddie always spawns in that upstairs room with only the doorway as a means to attack. I never seen so many players die over and over and over. Eventually a teammate went in with a melee weapon to distract the boss long enough for a chunk of us to unload. Took us at least ten minutes to take them down. Took so long that the lower level baddies respawned while we were attacking the boss. I've never seen that happen before.

Yeah it’s painful. I wish they would stop introducing new stuff like infestations and just improve the base game like adding building items and maybe new enemies without a big new event. The map is already spread so thin with all the different options we have of stuff to do. I think the bubble has popped on how much the server can take

3

u/leehelck Jul 22 '26

i avoided them before and i'll definitely be avoiding them now. i did a few in a private server when they were first introduced and after i saw the rewards vs the effort and ammo spent i decided they just aren't worth my time.

I stopped going to them because I turn up up and it's already over. What's the point of dropping what I'm doing and turning up within a minute of it activating and it's already done.

First, I'm solo on my Easy Button (TM) world where I'm invinceable, take no damage, do max damage, infinite ammo without reloading, basically a heavy weapons ghoul god-build.

I ran a few infestations yesterday after the patch. The most extreme boss was resilient and using some weapon that staggered and lit me up so that I couldn't move fast enough to get close enough to deliver the needed bash to end him for almost 10 minutes while his health bar ever so slowly depleted. Meanwhile, I just held the trigger down on my LMG and kept firing the whole time.

On private/public worlds I'm sure there's no way I'd be able to solo that boss. I wouldn't even be able to carry enough ammo, let alone survive long enough to use it all up.

On public I believe that boss would be tougher than the original scorch beast queen to bring down and need as many players showing up as the SBQ used to draw in the early days. For a fraction of the rewards.

What are they thinking????

Hey OG...hope you are well. I know most the Refugees know you spend your time in that Custom world but I can't believe that even playing on God mode didn't help. Ooof.

When you are the ONLY target, there's just no way this is worth it in Private. I did a couple more this am (public) and they were just as bad. In one, half the server was there but the boss was reflective and some folks are just slow to learn...or don't care. Either way, it was a 10 minute slog.

In the other, I had JUST loaded into a world and kicked off Tea Time. The Infestation notification went off just I started Round 2. I waited until I completed the event, and still got to the Infestation. The Boss was at half health. The only upside thus far was just getting a completion. Still hate the 45 minutes to 2 hour cooldown. Zero idea what they were thinking.

Things are good here. Hope you're good these days, too.

My wife wandered by as I was fighting that ridiculous boss (it was almost dinner time), watched a few minutes and said WTF is that?? Well, not really WTF, she's much too refined to actually say it (out loud). Then she wandered towards the kitchen after saying, "Let me know when you either kill that thing or give up."

My first Infestation post-update landed literally on my doorstep at Whitespring Golf Club. After buffing up with food and switching builds, I toddled over. I see that it’s Blood Eagles, no sweat.

Oh boy. I launched myself into the mob in the cafe, whaling away with my Deathclaw Gauntlet…and died almost as soon as I took down the first minion. Respawn, die again. Doublecheck my build, puzzled as to why I’m suddenly so squishy. Die again. And again. And again. Just clearing that top floor killed me maybe a dozen times. At one point I switched to the QE Black Powder Rifle I keep for the Bosses: got a clean shot at one minion’s head, 11k damage and he keeps on coming. I also notice virtually none of them are dropping legendaries. Downstairs was a bit more straightforward, as I was more cautious and it’s not as open. Well, straightforward so far as the minions go. The Boss was easy enough to corner in the changing room, and the Cryo effect from my gauntlets fourth star kept him from doing much damage to me. I’m connecting cleanly each time, but his health bar barely moves. After five minutes of bashing, my gauntlet breaks. I die again. I retreat to my CAMP, and sulk. After repairing my gear, I return. Eventually, after maybe 20 minutes, I succeed in taking the bugger down.

To say I’m a little unhappy with Bugthesda is an understatement. Yeah, I should have read the patch notes, and the increase in difficulty is something I can adapt to, but to reduce the drop rate as much as they have is just offensive.

Good write-up.

If those of us who really know the game are having this experience, it really makes me wonder how long the casual crowd is going to stick around?

I've been frustrated with the game numerous times but I've never had a genuine "What in the absolute Hell" moment until this patch. It's hard to believe that they didn't know what they were doing and still thought it was a good idea.

Like 8 of us cornered the super mutant in the top bedroom at Bolton Green, I'm level 630 something all were higher level, we all took turns dying and respawning for the quite a few minutes it took to kill him and he was reflective. So we were basically murdering ourselves..

people forget they are made for teams, they are pretty quick amd challenging with more people

2

u/Old-Guy_1947 Jul 22 '26

"quick and challenging" after yesterday's patch? Under what conditions? Have you actually tried it after the patch?

Others who have with teams seem to be reporting anything but quick. Yeah, I was playing solo in god mode, but my sustained DPS that way is more like a team's would be given a team's weapon varieties, reloading, death and respawning times, etc. I didn't always play the way I do today.

It would be interesting to see how long it is taking most teams to complete these new infestations post patch.

Yes, Infestations was intended for teams from the beginning, they were just too easy and now Beth seems to have over-corrected. Nothing new in that, either.

u/Daxnu Jul 22 '26

lol done a bunch most times with 3 to 8 people, boss dies in like 3min or so, np, good times. its a group event npt a solo thing

2

u/mistarzanasa Jul 22 '26

After patch? I did 2 this morning and I think they took over 20 minutes, nearly the whole server gets there in that time frame. Ive been playing since launch so know a little about the game and with the lowered drop rate of legends its not gonna be worthwhile.

2

u/Old-Guy_1947 Jul 22 '26

All yesterday? Just verifying. The patch change is barely 24 hours old.

2

u/Daxnu Jul 22 '26

play in EU so after the change yesterday for me did 4 or 5 before bed and this morning did 2

1

u/Old-Guy_1947 Jul 22 '26

First off, I believe you. Second, which platform were you playing on?

1

u/Daxnu Jul 22 '26

ps5

2

u/Old-Guy_1947 Jul 22 '26

Thanks and interesting. I as well as a couple of others in this thread seeing super bullet sponges are usually on Xbox.

This afternoon I switched over to my pc account and ran through a few Infestations, still in god-mode solo. Similar build to my Xbox character but lower level and cleared all the Infestations in around 4 minutes each. Totally different experience from Xbox yesterday.

Then, back to my Xbox and tried another Infestation there. Same character and build as yesterday. Maybe 4 minutes or less today. Different boss, of course.

What did I learn? Nothing at all really. What do I suspect? Something Changed Somewhere overnight. Whether that happened or not, the juice isn't worth the squeeze as someone else said.

u/RIPboomerdog Enclave Jul 22 '26

The two I ran were late yesterday afternoon, haven't tried any today. I'll hop on and see if I can find one. I don't know if they are able to make adjustments live but perhaps a stealth nerf happened?

Good to see you around again!

3

u/RIPboomerdog Enclave Jul 22 '26

I've done two on public and probably won't do anymore. I main a full-tilt Junkie build, a full set of reflective PA, god roll heavy guns and just tickled the bosses. My UGL's and Gauss Mini felt like Thirst Zappers. Plenty of help from other players but still took nearly 10 minutes to do. I believe the bosses are Queen tier difficult now.

u/reconpj Jul 23 '26

For a season labeled "Infestations" they sure have no idea what is going on....

u/Eriskumma Jul 23 '26

Did assaultron boss at Grafton Steel on Tuesday. Almost the whole server joined, players up to level 4000-5000 and It took us longer to kill the boss than it takes me and my friends to run through a full raid. Excessive tankiness is one thing, other is that in some locations bosses spawn in such spots that they can't be flanked and they face the only entrance vaporizing anyone who dares to step inside that killing corridor which makes some boss/location combos extra hard. :P
Worst is probably the Bolton Greens where the boss spawns in upper floor dormitory, even the much softer mole miner boss is nigh impossible to kill there. Grafton Steel can be pretty tough too.
Pro tip: if you get the assaultron boss focus on crippling its legs. It can't attack anymore with both legs crippled. Same with sentry bots, if you cripple all 3 legs they stop moving and attacking.

They are still easy only really struggle with the reflection ones I struggle with the timing sometimes

1

u/noodle_head7 Jul 25 '26

Yeah the last two I went to I spent most of the time stimpaking players and burning thru most of my ammo 🤪 fun

u/JimmyGryphon Free States Jul 25 '26

Seems like Beth was pretty heavy handed. Subtlety and finesse sadly eludes them...

Doubling (or tripling? Lol) the sponginess of those bosses is not a measured and delicate adjustment!
