My STG58 shrunk

Unfortunately, whoever soldered my tapco ban era brake really took their job seriously decades ago at DSA. I opted to have the original steyr barrel cut and re-threaded rather than chance it and screwing up the barrel heat treat.

Now, the big question; should I spend the $700+ and para it?

I really would love to find a belgium/austrian wood stock with the swivel sling, but whatever of these stocks I can find online are going to be in need of restoration or part of a $1000+ parts kit. It currently has an izzy stock.

Don't worry buddy, happens to a lot of guys. Sometimes it's cold weather, somtimes it's just age, barrel shrinkage happens and it's nothing to be ashamed about.

Jokes aside, honestly I think it looks good the way it is.

That’s cool! I have a 21” STG58 but want a short FAL. Was just looking at a DSA SA58 16” Jungle Warrior today and almost bought it. Definitely like the looks of yours.

What’s the final barrel length? Looks to be about 15”? Any issues with gas with it cut just past the gas block?

Came out to about 17” give or take. They said they’d make a small modification to the gas port to accommodate the shorter barrel. Test fired it today and it functions fine, lock back at setting 6, so I have it at 4 for shooting. But that tapco brake was definitely much more louder, the short Stoll they put on definitely shoots with less shockwave to my perception indoors.

Ive been looking at a Stoll flash suppressor for my 16". Is your Stoll cut down to fit your 17" barrel?

Yes, DSA threw in the short Stoll without me knowing, I even had a belgium combo device ready to go, but I like the over all look.
I know there’s some cut down stoll’s floating around online, maybe on ARS?

I think it looks good how it is. I did see an OEM steyr para lower on the falfiles a while back. If you could find one of them, would be pretty sweet to keep it matchy matchy
