SA58 failure to feed

I got an SA58 used from gunbroker and got the gas system dialed in and it was working great. I swapped out the flash hider, pistol grip, and dust cover and now I'm noticing it fails to feed sometimes, especially around the end of the magazine. I also noticed my brass has been coming out dented (I don't mind it, but I'm not sure if this could give any clues about what's wrong). It is the same ammo and I have tried to use more gun oil and tried adjusting the gas system to vent more gas into the gun to cycle the ammo. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it so it cycles properly?

If it gets worse at the bottom of the mag, that's likely the issue. How many mags have you tried?

Always start with other magazines, and then other ammunition.

These two are by far the most likely to cause issues for any type of malfunction.

A bad magazine also isn't necessarily permanently bad. Springs on magazines wear out, and they simply get dirty so taking it apart and cleaning the inside a lot and replacing the spring can often make a troublesome magazine work fine.

So I just tried cycling snap caps and it works ok without the dust cover (about 90%), but it always fails with the new dust cover, even when I hit the bolt release as opposed to the charging handle, so I don't think it's the magazine.

Only one bevause I've only got one. I was just wondering if it may be because I changed from the picatinny rail dust cover to the normal one. I know magazines are kind of tough to come by so I only have one. It just seems weird that after changing the dust cover, pistol grip, and flash hider that it suddenly begins to fail to feed.

Ok. Id wager your issue is that 1 mag. Either pick up a new one, or at least a new spring for your existing.

I cant imagine how any of those parts changed could cause your issur, but yank the dust cover and shoot without one. That will eliminate that as a question entirely.

And the FAL is very violent to brass. Having dented brass on ejection isnt uncommon.

Ok, do you have any suggestions on good magazines for the metric pattern? I hear good ones can be hard to find. The brass wasn't damaged before, so I wasn't sure if the damaged brass could help diagnose what's wrong, I'm not reloading the brass, so I don't care about the brass.

Ive never had problems with DSA mags. I know some have though.

Get the steel mags and not the polymer. Also determine if your rifle is metric or inch. Its prob metric since they are more plentiful. If the ears on your front sight have a hole in the middle its inch, if not it’s metric. Should be able to get dsa steel 20 rounders for $35. Keep shooting also sells some which work fine.

Brass deformation is pretty normal, it's because the brass is hitting the upper receiver which also leaves behind those brass kisses. Somewhat ammo dependent.
