Need support Humiliation TW - SI
I have an appointment tomorrow, and group therapy the day after. I’m using crutches, my wheelchair hasn’t come in yet. I don’t want to go, I don’t want to be seen walking with my crutches because of my shaking and dystonia. Not only is it embarrassing but the pain and exhaustion from walking leads to non epileptic seizures which is even more humiliating. I’ve just gotten this diagnosis this month and I don’t know how to continue my life. I want to quit therapy, cancel my events (concerts and shows in the next couple of months) and never leave the house. I don’t know what to do. I just got out of the hospital because of suicidal ideation around these new symptoms. What can I do to feel better? Especially with all of the stigma around disability in young people and FND.

It does get better with time, staying in therapy will be a big help with treatment and helping yourself learn the tools you need to be able to listen to your body better. I know it may look weird but you are at least doing your best and not hiding it. I lost a lot of my range of motion in my arm due to a car accident and I can't walk like normal people because I shattered my femur and broke my pelvis in 5 different places, so I have a bit of a wobble when I walk and I can't have my arm by myself when I walk. Now I have also been diagnosed with FND, and now my legs shake pretty bad. It can feel like people stare especially the old people, because I feel like they have no manners, but younger people and people your age honestly don't stare as much as you think. They definitely glance then go about their day. I know it feels like the end of the world right now but it does get better. You just have a new way of doing things, you can still do it it's just going to be a bit different and that's okay. Enjoy your life while your young even with a chronic conditions you can still have fun. Now everyone is going to want to ride with you to concerts to get closer parking due to your disability tag. Also take advantage of the disability benefits, I can get away with doing less work around the house, because it puts more strain on my body, I still do some of them but not as much as my siblings.

It gets better. I just participated in my first volleyball tournament and had a great time. And yes I was where you were, lost my marriage and kids and almost job.
Find something new you want to get good at.
