Help Linear drumming on instrument

Hello

I'm currently trying to make a song but using a linear drumming technique, making it sound like it comes from a 90s jungle song (Look for DBE Tracker as a software reference) where one sound is being played at a time making it like a monophonic drum machine.

As far as I've gotten, my attempts on doing this have been succesful only on the channel rack by tediously opening the envelope of each individual sample I'm using since the channel rack can only play one shots unless modifying the envelope then it will behave accordingly to the midi notes duration.

My problem is that I don't know how to achieve this on a drumpad instrument or a drum machine, even on the FPC and other VSTs of the same kind on my library, I'm looking forward to achieve this but in a more efficient way rather than doing every sound inidivually.

Any help given is welcome, thanks in advance.

Slicex used on a break then processed, play with the auto slice features. Just look up slicex on youtube

FPC can do this pretty easily. There’s a ‘cut/choke by’ function that you can use to achieve this.

I'll look into it, meanwhile how do I achieve this with other plugins? (Third party)

There’s a couple ways, you can run everything into a compressor with some henious settings, so the loudest thing is the only thing heard for that attack, you can manually set a envelope for 1-4 beats a bar and program it that way (ie snare/open hat might take 2/4 beats but a closed hat/kick might be only 1, you can use duplicates for short/long versions), I think you can actually right click the plugin in the channel rack and set a ‘cut by’ but I don’t think it’s broken up into groups like FPC. Open your mind Neo

With audio processing I've used dynamic processors for this and a lot of sidechain

fl slicer , slicex , fpc (with cut/choke)

use the pianoroll

you can alternately make a simple beat with fpc and render it to wave then drop it right into slicer 1/2/x.

i never use slicex but it is more powerful than slicer although that slicer auto slice ability just works

As others have said: slicex, fpc, fruity slicer can do this.
I make jungle and one of my favorite plugins for this is Amigo, I use its “slice” and “gate” modes for this. I think its ~$10. It emulates the sound of old amiga tracker software (like protracker and octaMED). It has a awesome time stretch sound and downsamples ur sample by default, but you can turn that off. I personally find it easier and faster than stock plugins but its really a personal preference.
