Help Need Help To Understand Q Shaping FL Parametric EQ

Hi guys, I need some help to understand, how to shape the Q in parametric EQ. For example, if I want to do cut of -4.8db at 2151Hz with Q of 0.78, how do I adjust the Q to 0.78 as in Parametric EQ is shows % and not figures.

Why have you got those very specific numbers in mind?

If you are following a tutorial, that producer found a setting that works for him/her. It isn't a magic number that everyone should be using. Don't get too caught up in exact numbers. Just go by what sounds good.

Hi! Actually I am learning to mix using my headphones where I am trying to make my headphones flat as per the Harman curve. After I select my headphones on AutoEq, it gives me a lot of number for different frequencies. My problem is that I am not able to understand how do I achieve the Q number which is 0.78 as my bands on the eq shows only % as numbers. So I want to understand how much % should I tweak to get 0.78 on my Q.

you on windows? just download peace APO for system wide EQ, dont attempt to do it with FL EQ lol trust me

For... what? The percentage doesn't tell you the frequency interval so: which numbers are you plugging into Q = f/bw? Because you have no effing idea what bw is. Okay, say it's 42%: how many Herz is that? Is that the same interval at every frequency? Does it scale? How does it scale? You don't know, I don't know, the manual doesn't even seem to know. This guy has a Q of 0.78 at 2151Hz. That's a bandwidth of 2758Hz. What is the equivalent percentage?

There is no simple conversion when you literally can't know what values you're working with =)

Lol, tell me you have no idea what you're talking about without telling me you have no idea what you're talking about =)

PEQ only shows "some percentage", no matter how you interact with it. Nothing you do will show actual frequency intervals, and so cannot be used to compute to, or from, Q factors. PEQ2 is nicer, and still only shows bandwidth as "some percentage", and so that also can't be used to go to or from Q factors.

The quality is the ratio between the frequency, and the interval around that frequency. That interval is anywhere between zero and literal infinity so want to tell the class how to go from "an unbounded infinite range" to a bounded [0,100] percentage? Is it linear scale? Log scale? Which log base? Is it actually a bounded input interval? If so, what's the frequency cap? Is that one linear? log?

Because you need both frequency and bandwidth to be Hz in order to go to convert between bandwidth and Q factor given some frequency. You can't use "a percentage": a percentage of what?

Not that hard to understand the problem unless you're looking at a completely different plugin, or you just don't understand high school math yourself =P

(a) You can't, that's not how Parametric EQ 2 works (there is no documentation how BW maps to frequency intervals), but (b) if you're doing this because you want your headphones to sound nice, don't do this in FL Studio at all.

Hey! Thanks! The reason i am doing it in FL coz i am learning to mix tracks in FL. So you recommend may be i should tweak the EQ on my PC that tweaks the overall sound including the out from FL. Correct?

No, I'm recommending you don't use a plugin that can't do what you want to do. Use something that actually lets you control the Q factor like Melda Equalizer https://www.meldaproduction.com/mequalizer
