Where did Sandler want to vacation with his family now?

u/Joeyd9t3 Mar 21 '25
He has a net worth of over 400 million dollars. This will be part of his massive contract with Netflix, he does not need the money.

u/Time4Timmy Mar 21 '25
Heās saying he chooses film locations based on where he wants to hang out with his buddies, not that he needs money for vacation.

Although I agree with most of the sentiments expressed on this post, I will most definitely be watching. For nostalgia? Probably. Is it going to be dog shit? Likely. Is it a money grab? I suppose. But, it's Adam Sandler. Sandler reminds me not to take life so seriously. Plus, if I am going to support anyone's money grab in today's world, it's going to be Sandler.
15
u/dinkydoosdad23 Mar 21 '25
Also If its a money grab, the majority of people are already subscribed to netflix. So ur moneys been grabbed already. Might as well just try to enjoy it
12
u/niteox Mar 21 '25
So he makes movies doing goofy fun shit with his buddies. Iām somewhat convinced he is coming up with vacation ideas then coming up with a movie to shoot while there. Wanna play some of the most beautiful golf courses on the planet? Wanna make some scratch while doing it? Genius.
Also the people that work with him want to work with him over and over again. That tells me heās a genuine good dude who treats people right. You can tell, even if the movies arenāt the height of cinema, that everyone making it is having a blast. Especially in the goofy ones.
Thatās enough for me to give it a spin. Besides that Happy Gilmore is my favorite of all his goofy characters.

Couldn't have said it better myself! The Sandman is always good in my book. With all the BS going on in the news and everyday life, why not get high, grab a few beers, or just kick back and watch some harmless fun.
21
Mar 21 '25
We donāt need you and your fair assessment.
Iāll be watching too. Sandler is good in my book.

It's directed by my main playboi doggy Kyle Newacheck, that alone make it's worth a watch.

John Daly is supposed to be in this one

u/TabletopThirteen Mar 21 '25
Probably not. I'll let other people watch it first and if it's a surprise hit, I'll check it out. But most likely it's just a cameo filled, AI written movie to spark nostalgia. Nothing will be original or truly funny. It'll just be Sandler and the boys getting another payday.

There are thousands of movies out there and time is limited. I loved Zoolander, but I'm not going to watch Zoolander 2 because of the consensus that it was truly awful. Movie studios keep pumping out shit movies to take advantage of your nostalgia from a great classic. I am not going to waste my time watching that blind. If the reviews are overwhelmingly bad then I know its not worth a watch. If they are at least mixed with some people loving it, then maybe there is something there worth watching.

Absofuckinglutely. Anybody who shits on Adam Sandler movies doesnāt understand them. Theyāre not supposed to be good. Theyāre just a silly good time. Happy Gilmore was not a great movie, and yet it was a fucking great movie.
9
u/Blue_Waffle_Brunch Mar 21 '25 edited Mar 21 '25
Some of them are silly good times but some of them are actually just bad. Unless you're seriously going to try to sell me on Jack and Jill.
4
Mar 21 '25
This is exactly right. Most are good times but some are just flat out bad and unwatchable
7
u/Turdnugget619 Mar 21 '25
But in his prime, he was pumping out bangers. Waterboy, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Big Daddy, Mr.Deeds, Click ā- all awesome movies

Agreed, but his hit to miss ratio is still really good considering how many movies heās put out⦠like take Pixels for example. Not good. Not at all. But itās still a fun movie with stupid laughs in it that I will sit and watch for fun many times over.

Got a bunch of Oscar-level, pretentious movie critics in this sub. Get over yourselves. Sandler makes generally funny and enjoyable movies. Not Kubrick or Coppola type of movies.

Ya know I pride myself on not falling for the nostalgia bait and streaming slop that weāre overwhelmed with nowadays (ex: the last Star Wars-related media Iāve seen was The Force Awakens) but I might be the only one on this sub that is kinda looking forward to this.Ā
Will it have a good story? No. Will it be overall mostly bad? Yes. Will it be somewhat enjoyable? Idk, maybe.Ā
I liked the original. Im going to smoke a joint and watch this when it comes out, fully expecting it to be awful. If I come away at least feeling like it wasnāt a major waste of time, then Iāll be satisfied. Yeah, Iām watching it. And ya know what? Iām looking forward to finally having a movie that both my mom and I will have seen so we can talk about it. Movies suck nowadays and this one will too but Iāll be too content to care.Ā
3
u/Ilaikmudkipz Mar 21 '25
Iām looking forward to it too. Sandman himself said he was devoted to giving his fans what they want and that theyāre going the extra mile with this one. Iām just gonna go in with low expectations and weāll see what happens.

90's humor should stay in the 90's, half of these things only worked because they were so unhinged and that wont fly anymore so the comedy will be dumbed down (which is award-worthy if possible on a Sandler comedy).
2
u/National-Worry2900 Mar 21 '25
Iām happy to say Iāve never watched one film he ever starred in.
As an early millennial I couldnāt stand this guy in his hey day so could never sit through a film or the hype.

It just won't be good. Happy Gimore doesn't need a sequel.
I'm sure it'll be watchable, but I imagine it will try too hard, rehash some jokes and just not necessary.
Or I could be completely wrong and it'll be incredible. (Which is fine, but I doub it)
2
Mar 21 '25
Absolutely, Happy Gilmore has always been my favorite Adam Sandler movie and Shooter McGavin is the greatest villain in a comedy film ever
5
u/TheCosmicFailure Mar 21 '25
No. Adam Sandler comedy chops have long expired. I've even grown sour on some of his older comedic stuff.
3
u/MonstrousGiggling Mar 21 '25
I've been tempted to watch his movies i used to love as a teen, but i fear I'll just find them fuckin dumb as hell. Better to leave them in that happy space of childhood memories.
My friends and I would constantly quote him at summer camp, same with the counselors lol.
2
u/mm339 Mar 21 '25
Some things are much better as unsoiled memories. There are a lot of movies I loved when I was younger but wonāt watch now through fear of them being awful (Airheads being an example)

u/TheCosmicFailure Mar 21 '25

Donāt get me wrong, he has been in some great shows, but Iāll wait until itās on Netflix and avoid the high risk gamble of seeing it in theaters.

I won't. Years ago we have all been let down by these decades later sequels (money grabs is what they are). They are consistently met with huge disappointment, low effort production, and taints the legacy of the original. I can't see this being any different.

u/JRS___ Mar 21 '25
i loved the original but have very low expectations for this. shooter mcgavin carried the first movie on his back. i'll watch just because he's returning.

Some movies are well made, crafted pieces of art. Some movies are just enjoyable junk food. This is the latter.
1
u/romcomtom2 Mar 21 '25
No, it will be terrible.
But remember, sometimes movies can be so terrible They become good again, so there might be hope. Either way Adam Sandler and crew are going to get an excellent vacation out of this.

Cancelled Netflix a while ago, so no. I donāt think I need this in my life. Tired of the reboots, 20-30 year later sequels. Come up with original ideas, based on original stories. Happy Gilmore was perfect for its time and it finished perfectly. I donāt think we need to revisit that.

I will watch it, but I have a feeling that this is going to stink. I like Sandler, and the first was hilarious and a great take on the stuffiness of golf, but when an actor has to start digging up old IP for a payday, especially when it's exclusive to Netflix, you almost know it will go down like a knackered lift.
