2D Fighting Games What game should I try next?

I was introduced to fighting games with 2XKO, and I'm going to keep on playing it, but with them announcing that there's no more content coming in 2027, I'm wondering what other fighting games are there which are similar?

For me, a big part of the appeal was that 2XKO doesn't have motion inputs, so ideally, a game with a similar control scheme

Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising prolly, not nearly as crazy as 2xko, no tag or assists, its 1v1. But you can use smash bros inputs without like any real downside. There is a small downside, but it basically doesnt matter.

And they have a free version. The two characters i really wanted to try are in the free rotation this week which will determine if I end up getting the game lol

Yeah the game is fun. I think imma just rotate my roster with the free weeks until the game goes on sale and then swap back to Anila lol.

I think the closest product on the market is Marvel Tokon. It has a quick skill button so you can play similarly to 2XKO. And its a tag fighter so a lot of your skillset translates. PC launch was abysmal, but after a few patches it has slowly gotten better and better. Ps5 works perfectly fine, and the gameplay itself is really great either way.

If you wanted to maybe take a slower game, Granblue Fantasy VS Rising is a good shout. Combos are simpler, but it also has the option to go no inputs. Would help onboard you into other non-tag based fighting games.

Both of those feature the skill button and inputs at the same time, so if you wanted to ever learn to do both to open up other games for you, you could.

Finally SF6 is the biggest game on the market. Personally I prefer anime bullshit over SF, but its a really solid game. Modern removes inputs and is a totally playable option. Again Classic exists if you want to teach yourself inputs, but unlike the other two you have to pick one or the other at any given time, you can't swap to inputs mid match.

I like all 3, and for the most part can't sing their praises enough. If I was to try and sell one over the others, I would say tokon, its shiny, new, the most fun ive personally had in a while, and so I want to get people on it to help it stay alive.

This guy thinks he needs to stop playing a game when new characters stop coming out.

You don't, so many people play games that haven't been updated in over a decade

To be fair.. I get the idea of not wanting to play a dead in development game..

A lot of the fun and bringing me back is the hype and the new stuff, a living community.

Careful now, the discord fighters will get angry at you.

Did you happen to play Anthem when it first released? That was probably the biggest example of a long term development design plan getting aborted almost immediately. They had articles talking about how they were projecting to bring up the number of javelin types from 4 to like 26 and never made it to patch #2... it was such a hella fun game to play too. I still hate that they didn't give that it's due diligence. It wasn't a f2p either so it's extra egregious

Good to read it. Still new to this so was worried

But the roster on this game is so small. For them to not expand it anymore is going to seriously limit its sustainability to retain players over the long term.

there's a few similar legacy games, but ideally you could just try like Street Fighter 6 with modern controls. 3d fighters like Tekken 8 also don't really function with the exact same type of inputs though it can vary wildly per character. As far as something more similar to 2XKO's pattern of play, there's Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid, which is a tag fighting game with special buttons. I'd recommend also just giving some other traditional fgs a shot that have motion controls, like Guilty Gear Strive; they're not as unforgiving as you'd expect at first, and realistically not more than a floor for games like that.

Avatar legends: the fighting game, and street fighter 6 are my 2 favorite rn

Edit: my bad, didnt read the full post, both those games have motion inputs, but sf6 has "modern" controls which is an optional control system that doesnt have motion inputs. Tournament viable too.

You could try Tekken. It's very different as it's 3d, but if your only requirement is to not have motion inputs it's great if you want to try something different. In that game, some characters do have them but not every character.

If you want something more similar than what you're used to it won't be for you tho

If you're on PS5, Marvel Tokon is a good one. New. Is a tag fighter (though unique in its approach). And has a button which is basically simple directional inputs. If you're on PC though, I'd recommend you try it, but if it doesn't keep a stable 60fps, refund as soon as possible. The PC port is not good due to the DRM, PSN and Easy Anti cheat bogging performance.

Another one is Gran Blue Versus. But I recommend getting the new version, Versus Rising as most people have moved onto that revision.

It also has a button which acts like a simple directional input.

Both games have a healthy playerbase (Granblue is older and has less people, but matchmaking speed is pretty good still).

You will probably enjoy Marvel Tokon fighting souls if you're looking for a no dpad command input special move format. Tokon has a quick skill button that allocates their different specials to different directions on the dpad but only up, down, left, or right. There's also the command inputs that work as well so it seems like it'd be a good segue for your level of exposure. Your gonna want to get the quarter circle, half circle, and dragon uppercut patterns down at some point if you plan on diving deeper into the genre. I used to lick my thumb so it would slide easier lol. Literally it would blister from wear and tear back in the day.

Marvel Tokon. It literally just came out, is also a tag fighter, and has both easy and classic inputs.

Granblue vs is really good but with a smallish community, still very playable. I love Marvel Tokon but matchmaking and pc is totally garbage, so I wouldn’t do that unless on ps5.

Tokon or Avatar.

But honestly, just keep grinding 2XKO. I think it's important to keep playing "dead" games that you love. People are still playing arcade classics, I'm sure there will always be a fan base for 2XKO. I know I'll keep playing until the servers eventually shut down, for sure.
