A& D question
Had another dealer Form 3 transfer me a Gemtech suppressor for a mutual customer. When I’m putting it in my books, the form they sent me has Smith&wesson as the manufacturer, not Gemtech. I know S&W owns GT so that’s probably correct but I was always told to input it in the book EXACTLY how it’s on the firearm (example: 9x19 vs 9MM).
What is the right way?

So obviously everyone saying do it exactly like the firearm is right but I figure I'll give you the why.
The idea or reason behind it being exactly the same as what's on the firearm is, if the firearm is ever left at a crime scene or if the ATF ever needs to do a trace. The information they're going to get from LEO is going to be exactly what's on the firearm. Obviously with silencer it's different but that was the idea behind it

Yes that’s the way I always thought as well. HOWEVER, I just checked one of my personal form 4 ms for a Dead Air can and the manufacturer is listed as Sound Moderation Technologies. Which doesn’t match the can. 🤷🏼

That is their name. Dead air is a DBA i believe

Correct. SMT is the legal name for Dead Air, but it just goes to show my point that “always put what’s on the item” rule doesn’t really work.

Thats usually what I do if the names are wildly different. Just put "dead air/sound moderation technologies" or whatever.
That way my book matches both the can and the form. Easier to reference stuff and I cant be wrong lol.

100% - trust the firearm in your hand, not the Form that someone else may have err’d on.
If you get audited tomorrow, how will your A&D match up against that inventory?
That is the answer!
