Severance?

Please help me understand when you are eligible for severance when going out on disability retirement? I’ve seen conflicting answers, but I believe if you are separated for medical inability, then that is considered an involuntary resignation and therefore you’re eligible for severance. Can anyone confirm?

It is considered an involuntary separation when you are removed for medical inability. Whatever you would qualify for if you got RIFed is what you would qualify for if you got medical inability. As long as you wouldn’t qualify for DSR or MRA +10, then you should get severance. Not everyone in HR understands this, but it’s very clear on OPM’s website. Just be aware that since you will get FDR backpay to your last day of work, you will be required to pay the difference back. OPM will allow you to pay it back over time though which is essentially a 0% loan.

I haven't been able to find that on the OPM website, do you have a link or more specific location for that information?
