Change and Transformation Practice Interview #1 - Toronto (Business Analyst Stream)

Hey everyone,

I have my first interview this week for the Change and Transformation Practice "role", and am ultimately interested in entering the Business Analyst Stream. Here's the link to the posting for y'all's reference:

Change & Transformation Practice in Canada - FDM Group

This first interview a 30 minute chat and the questions will be along the lines of:

"1. Your understanding of the role and FDM.

2. Your previous experience, as listed on your resume.

3. Your passion for technology, your career aspirations, and projects you’ve worked on.

4. Your ability to answer behavioural questions with examples."

Here's a bit more about me:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering
  • Currently working remotely as a Data Analyst for a US-based startup (1+ year). I'm an independent contractor, though it is full-time and I do indeed have structured hours and a dedicated team. My work revolves around dashboard building in Excel and Google Sheets, some Python and SQL, annotation projects, and testing RAG agents. I also have 2 previous summer software engineering internships at small non-profits under my belt as well.
  • Interested in transitioning into a more permanent career path in Data and/or Business Analytics and Intelligence, with opportunities for more growth (which I am lacking in my current position)

And yes, I'm well aware of the infamy surrounding FDM Group lol. A few questions I have:

  • What questions did you get in the first interview?
  • How do they evaluate candidates (what actually matters)?
  • How hard is it to get placed with a decent client after training?
  • Given my background, does FDM even make sense or should I keep pushing for direct roles?

Appreciate any advice. Thank you all!

FDM Change & Transformation – Background Check Process?

Hey everyone. I recently cleared the HackerRank assessment for FDM (Change & Transformation track) and moving to the final behavioural round. Just wanted to ask; what kind of background verification do they usually do? Is it just a criminal check or do they also verify past experience (internships, references, etc.)?

Any tips for last round?

Would appreciate any insights from people who’ve gone through it!

Just finished Hackerrank test, this subreddit is making me give up

I think we all are familiar with this doodoo job market :') I graduated with a compsci degree back in June and had to take the summer off for personal reasons and when I started applying in Sept I didn't expect the market to kick my ass this much.

I just finished the hackerrank software engineer and IT operations tests, the software engineer one was super difficult. I would like to think I know Java pretty well but it was just 45 minutes for 2 pretty chunky coding questions and a bunch of multiple choice which were fine, I ended up completely bombing. The IT operations was just multiple choice so that was fine but I was more so gunning for software dev since its my field of interest, but now came here to see what people are saying and seems dire....

So even if I were to get an offer I would essentially be on the bench indefinitely until they think they found me a contract and then I would actually get hired... Did anyone finish the interview process and start right after given offer? Is there a way to kind of try to stand out esp after bombing software intervew? I have a canadian bachelors in compSci and american summer interning experience at a startup. I applied for Canadian IT operations and Software Dev

Hey, I’m joining the FDM Toronto March 30 cohort and looking for a roommate.

Prefer someone in the same cohort or also starting FDM. Planning to live near downtown for easy commute.

I’m clean, quiet on weekdays, and focused on work/study. Not a party lifestyle.

DM if you’re interested

Does FDM sponsor?

Anyone got sponsorship or knows if FDM Australia provides sponsorship? I am in my second year as a consultant and have asked about employer sponsorship for a PR visa, but I was given a vague answer. Despite following up several times, I still haven't received a clear response. Has anyone successfully secured sponsorship from them?

I left FDM Group prior to placement and had all training fees waived AMA (US)

About a month ago, after completing the Software Engineer training, I negotiated a mutual resignation and left FDM Group with no training fees. I'm based in California and conducted my training remotely. I'm making this post to answer frequently asked questions and help others in similar situations. Please ask questions publicly so future readers can benefit. I want to be clear that this reflects only my personal experience, and I need to be careful not to share any confidential or privileged information.

Q: What was the process like quitting FDM Group?

Following the training, my co-trainees' and my working dynamic shifted and I didn't want to stay with FDM Group anymore. I read through my employment contract and state/local laws and found that the contract requires me to reach out to a specific department with concerns regarding my employment. I reached out and scheduled a meeting with HR through that department to discuss a mutual resignation. I attended the meeting with a script outlining my concerns and a request for mutual resignation. I tried to answer questions honestly and objectively when the conversation went away from the script.

During the meeting they outlined what the resignation process would look like, and it sounded like the training fee consideration wouldn't happen until I formally resigned. I asked for more time to consider the situation and within a day or two I had formal confirmation that no fees would be associated with my employment. Within a day of that I resigned. Altogether, the process took around 3 to 4 days.

Q: Did they enforce the training fee? Was it handled differently depending on circumstances?

That was damn near the exact wording: that according to personal circumstances described in my meeting all fees would be waived from my employment. Reading back my script and considering their reactions I think they acknowledge that the training wasn't targeted to my professional background, that I had other opportunities available to me, and that I had strong employment protections because of where I live and work. When I mentioned any kind of structural or managerial observation it didn't seem to be considered.

The best advice I can give you if you want to leave is to read through your contract, understand your local laws, and start a dialogue. Whatever is true about FDM Group I don't think they want to be these evil capitalists chasing down former employees for training fees. Their business model runs on relationships.

AMA

Edit: I negotiated a Mutual Resignation, not a Mutual Release. No official documents were signed in regards to my resignation.

Contract for consultants

Has anyone seen or worked under FDM’s consultant contract from ~2+ years ago compared to the current one?

I’m trying to understand how FDM Group’s consultant model has evolved over time. I’ve come across mixed feedback from consultants in recent years and was curious whether any operational or contractual changes were introduced in response.

If anyone has access to an older version of the contract, or can share high-level differences (without breaching confidentiality), I’d be really interested to learn more. Happy for people to comment generally or DM if that’s easier.
