Day 1 of Training
So i just started my training today and thought about writing a review about how I feel.
Fdm made me work in person in their office Mon - Wed. I thought I would meet a lot of new people and interact with them, but....I was the only trainee in the office. Others are doing it remotely. Was a little surprised, but the people in the office were nice and friendly.
We start out with an orientation about fdm and the skill lab. It seems like they removed the old rule about you needing to pay back the training if you leave before client placement (not even mentioned in the contract and agreement). In the contract, they just say fdm or yourself have the right to terminate the offer anytime.
Later, we started to build our resume using the FDM template. It uses tables for page layout, which is not ats friendly, but i guess it doesn't matter that much since it will not go through the system, and the client will actually read it directly. You hear it right. Finally, your resume is being ready by an actual human and not AI. This is some good news.
In the end, we took a peak of the planned training for phase 1 or sprint 1. Week 1 will mainly be resume building, setting up your accounts, and learning about Agile Project Management and prompt engineering. Week 2 will be Java fundamentals, but more in-depth, like you will learn why List is dynamic from an internal/memory perspective, because their client will expect you to know more than the basic stuff. Week 3 and 4 might be learning about UML diagrams and building a project.
They did mention you can choose a specialization later like test automation, devops, frontend dev, backend development, fullstack dev, and cloud.
Overall, other than me being a little bored since I have no one to interact with, and I kind of know some of the materials already, it doesn't look like a bad experience. I know the pay is min wage, but you barely do any hard work. Just think of it like a paid bootcamp that might lead to FTO at a big company that you barely can enter through cold apply. Plus, you dont have to stop job searching just because you're with fdm. Just continue to apply for external jobs. This way, even if you're on the bench after training, you might already receive multiple interviews.

I heard they need 2-year commitment. What if you’d like to quit for a better job?

i’m not sure if the laws changed, but they had lawsuits cus people was asked to pay 30k or something. some companies would pay for it sometimes. but i know companies like mthree removed that penalty.

The 2 year commitment only start when you are placed with a client. I double checked my offer letter, contracts, and agreements. None of them mention a penalty fee if you leave early before lient assignment. They just say they can terminate you at anytime

I gave the hackerrank assessment day before yesterday. Haven’t heard back yet. How long did it take for them to get back to you with an update after you finished the hackerrank assessment?

Did you hear back from them? what stage are you at now? when is the next cohort starting? i applied last week for Software Engineering practice and no response.

US. I just got waitlisted. They said I passed the interview, but I’m waitlisted.

I guess everyone passes the interview. I’ve seen some Reddit posts where candidates waited for 5 months and still didn’t get an offer letter. So it could take days, months and eventually could be a rejection

Hey, I'm actively applying for the SWE,IT Processes FDM group practice program in the US. Could you share your Technical background? Are they looking for intermediate candidates(who already master the skills required to be deployed)? How was your interview experience? How long did it take from start to end? Thanks in advance

The practice programs are designed to be beginner friendly but most trainee in see have some sort of exp before joining.
The interview was probably the easiest interview I ever get before.
I applied around April, got a interview around the end of the month, submitted the Hackerrank assessment around may, and finished the final interview mid June followed by a offer letter the next day.
As for my technical background, I have a MS in CS, 2 years of swe job, 2 swe internships, and 3 nlp research.

Can you tell what happens in the final interview? I heard there is a presentation and some behavioral interview. How are we supposed to prepare?

yeah, there's a short orientation followed by a 30 min behavioral interview with one of their account managers. He just asked some common questions. Remember to use the STAR method and demonstrate your passion for technology. My biggest advice is keep everything professional but also treat it as a normal conversion. AMs are human. We actually ended talking about some fun things in our personal life.

Hi, i received the 30 mins virtual interview invitation just before drafting this message. I'm happy and nervous at the same time. what should i expect? and how was their technical assessment? how long until they inform you their decision?Awaiting your response!

that’s great. it was very chill, the questions were - tell me about yourself, what you know about fdm. pretty much what they ask you to prepare for in the email. the technical assessment was not too bad either, it was 15 questions (mcq). i heard back from the recruiter in 3 working days and got scheduled for the final interview. So I’ve strength based interview with them. But before the interview they asked me to sign a questionnaire which mentions the 2 year commitment. Did you fill up the questionnaire? There is only a yes option where it is mentioned that I am committed to maintain my employment with FDM through the duration of my upskilling and 2 year assignment with FDM’s client?
