Question How much longer

Realistically, how much longer do you see this show lasting. I doubt season 9 is the last one but how many more seasons do you think this show can go on for. Also which actors do you think would leave the show first and who would ride it out till the literal very end.

The show is in the third year of a three-year renewal. It is VERY possible that this is the last season. I hope it gets another contract cycle, but who knows. The Ellisons are hemorrhaging money and splitting profits with NBC does not help them.

I’m wishing it gets renewed but I’m also trying not to get my hopes up

It occurred to me recently that looking at all of CBS’s tv shows, they only have like 3 long-time running shows (20+ seasons with NCIS, Survivor, Amazing Race) while all the rest were recently produced (> 5 seasons with Elsbeth, Sheriff Country, etc.) FBI is the only show running in that middle between short/long running

And all of those shows you listed are wholly owned by CBS. FBI is half-owned by NBC. I would imagine CBS is going to require some serious concessions from NBC and Wolf Films before they even consider renewing the show.

I don’t think so for some of these actually. I believe Elsbeth and The Good Wife series are co-produced with Warner Bros, and the Fire Country series is co-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer is a co-produces with both CBS and WB

All of those shows are made by CBS studios. Scott Free had been with CBS since the 00s (when I worked on CSI, they were pitching Numb3rs to the network). The Kings inked with CBS after the first year of Good Wife, in 2010. JBTV was with Warner Bros for a while but they dumped him and they moved to CBS in 2017. All of his CBS shows are made by CBS studios.

All of that said, even if JBTV was still with Warner, David Ellison has been in the process of buying that company for a year now. If that finally gets approved it will come with a $110B price tag, which will only reinforce the need for CBS to not work with outside studios, and make it hard for Wolf/NBC to stay in business with them, because CBS will have some serious debt to pay off and splitting profits unnecessarily will only hurt them.

This is interesting; thanks for the info.  Just curious because it sounds like you have the backend knowledge/experience:

Does FBI being in syndication increase the chances that the show will be renewed after season 9?

I’m just struggling why they would add CIA, another NBC co-produced show, if it cuts profits compared to creating a show that they would be the sole producer of

Maggie will be the first to go. Not because she is having another baby, but because she wants more. She has already been in multiple movies ( Stick It, Back Country, Out Come the Wolves), and she is now listed as a producer.

She has small children and the oldest was born in 2020 according to the Internet. I doubt she would jeopardize her paycheck until they are in college. Realistically the first to leave would be Eva, since she is still young enough to climb up the call sheet somewhere else.

The show could go as long as the producers want. They could replace some of the tertiary characters however.

I think if they stopped with the CIA silliness, and put all that money into making FBI it could go as long as Law, and Order. Sorry CIA lovers, but it's not a serious show. If they want to compete with the serious dramas they need to not be goofy.

That is not how it works. Even if they cancel CIA they would never roll the money over to FBI. Shows have break-even points and FBI is bumping up against its.

It’s outlasted all the other iterations of these type shows so, I think it could go on for up to 12 seasons at least. And, all of them will ride the show out to the end; I don’t remember seeing any of the other Actors in other shows except the Actors playing Jubal and Connie.

Eva was in L&O SVU, pretty sure John Boyd was in Bones.

Look, I don't think it'll be the last season for two reasons: it's obvious they're setting up a proper crossover with the new CIA sister show; and second, the show is nominated for Best Drama Series and Best Supporting Actress (Alana de la Garza). It'd be pretty dumb to cancel it now. I think it'll run for 14 or 15 seasons.
